Wembley Talks ‘Reopened,’ Says Eddie Hearn

Posting on Instagram, Hearn couldn’t contain his excitement while talking about making the fight happen at Wembley.

“I want to thank everyone for the unbelievable support. You have been heard and talks have now reopened for Wembley,” said Hearn.

Wembley was already heavily booked for 2026, so it wasn’t simply sitting empty waiting for Joshua vs Fury. The stadium, which had an unbelievably packed schedule, was chock-full of events like concerts, the Union Jack Classic, and England nationals during the period.

The bigger issue was that the Joshua vs Fury negotiations had moved toward New York, specifically Madison Square Garden. The organizers, including Netflix and Saudi-backed stakeholders, preferred New York, while Joshua’s contractual position required the fight to be in England. Hearn had been pushing Wembley but had essentially been told that the American option was the direction things were going.

While he hasn’t exactly gotten Wembley yet, Hearn kept pushing back because Joshua’s contract calls for the fight to be held in the UK. His lobbying, combined with huge public pressure from British fans and support from London Mayor Sadiq Khan, appears to have persuaded the Saudi-backed organizers to reopen negotiations with Wembley. According to reports, Sela has asked him to investigate whether Wembley can accommodate the fight, potentially with a very late UK start time to suit the American audience.

“Let’s make history with one of the biggest sporting moments Britain has ever seen,” he said.

“It Has Got To Be”

London mayor Sadiq Khan, on the other hand, has also been persistently trying to make the fight a reality for British boxing fans.

“It has got to be. Both AJ and Tyson Fury recognize that their most loyal fans are in this country, many across the UK. London is so easy to get to, Wembley is so easy to get to and we could get 100,000 fans there very safely,” he said while talking to reporters. “I know both AJ and Tyson Fury would love it to be in front of their fans, but the promoters have got to recognize that not only would there be 100,000 fans there live, but millions would watch across the globe. We want to make it happen.”
