Just minutes before he suffered a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois on Saturday night, Anthony Joshua was caught on camera uttering comments to his trainer.
So, what did Joshua tell his trainer, Ben Davison, before the final blow at Wembley Stadium?
According to Davison, Joshua was not fuming about his opponent, but instead trying to hype himself for one last roll of the dice. That would explain why Joshua charged out of the corner like a man on a mission at the start of the fifth round before suffering the final knockout blow in front of 96,000 fans.
"Going into the last round, he came back to the corner and said 'These are the moments we live for. Tough moments,'" Davison told reporters, via SecondsOut. "He spoke about rolling the dice. He rolled the dice and hurt Daniel but was just a little bit reckless in terms of his application right in the final moments."
To Joshua's credit, he went down like a warrior and gracefully accepted defeat in his post-match interview, crediting Dubois and his team for their victory. The 34-year-old Briton even downplayed retirement talk by saying he doesn't want to be remembered as the fighter who got dropped four times in his last bout.
The first of those four blows came in the first round when Joshua went down to a lethal left hook from Dubois. The knockdown set the tone for the rest of the bout as Joshua seemed noticeably slower against an aggressive foe.
While Joshua hopes to fight another day, many have urged the Briton to walk away from the sport of boxing. Retired legend Naseem Hamed told iFL TV that the aging Joshua was exposed on Saturday and must "bow out gracefully" immediately. Elsewhere, Tyson Fury blamed Joshua for costing him £150 million since the two heavyweights were in line for a collision course at some point in 2025. However, Joshua's loss may have forced promoters to hold back from booking him for another high-profile bout.
