Former and current world champions have picked Terence Crawford to beat Canelo Alvarez in their undisputed super middleweight title fight on September 13.
One of those boxers is Amir Khan, saying the odds are 60-40 for Bud. Khan, suffered defeats to both men, believes that Canelo is “easy to hit.” Khan boxed Crawford in October 2019, where the fight ended in a low-blow TKO in favor of Crawford. Khan’s trainer at the time, Vergil Hunter, told the referee that Khan could not continue.
Bud accused Khan of quitting, something he denied. Three years earlier, in May 2016, Khan was knocked out by Canelo in the sixth round. Prior to the stoppage, Khan was outboxing the Mexican. Khan took the fight at a 155-pound catchweight, when he boxed mostly at 140 and 147. Despite Crawford jumping up two weight classes, Khan gave him the edge.
“Both fighters are great, they’re both great at what they do. When I fought Canelo, you know, he was easier to hit. He had slow feet but fast hands. I never expected him to have the fast hands he had, and obviously, he caught me. He has a lot of power, so that’s one thing Crawford has to worry about, the size and the power.
“But then again, I saw a picture of Crawford where he was weighing around 180 lbs, looked strong, looked big, and I think he holds the weight well. And he’s another fighter that’s very strong, very powerful, so you know what? I do lean more towards Crawford in this fight, because he’s the more fresher fighter. He’s not been in too many wars like Canelo’s been in. But this is top-level boxing, this is, so I don’t know who’s going to win. But I do lean more towards Crawford,” Khan said
Devin Haney has also picked Crawford to come out on top.
“Bud has the skills and discipline to win. But Canelo has all that with the size. It’s a good fight. I’m happy that Bud got the fight. I think it’s a good fight for boxing. Of course. I’m picking Bud, too. But will it be an easy task? No. But if anybody can do it, I think Bud can,” Haney stated
