Mississippi State snapped Northeastern’s 27-game winning streak with a dominant 11–2 win Friday in the opening game of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
The Bulldogs (35–21) took control early, plating three runs in the second inning and four more in the third to build a commanding lead.
Joe Powell powered the offense with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the third. Noah Sullivan capped the scoring with a two-run shot in the ninth, the team’s 99th home run of the season.
On the mound, Ben Davis delivered a steady performance, allowing two runs over five innings. Ryan McPherson followed with four scoreless frames to earn the save.
The loss marked Northeastern’s (48–10) first since April 5 and ended the nation’s longest active winning streak.
Mississippi State advances to the winners’ bracket and will face host Florida State on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. The Seminoles are the No. 8 national seed and defeated Bethune-Cookman 6–2 in Friday’s second game.
The Bulldogs are seeking their first Super Regional appearance since 2021, when they won the national championship.
