Razorbacks fans can quit dreaming about Tony Vitello leaving Tennessee for Arkansas after hearing quote from Dave Van Horn

There's a somewhat large contingent of Arkansas Razorbacks fans on social media who are hoping that Tennessee Vols head coach Tony Vitello will eventually leave Knoxville for Fayetteville.

The noise from those fans grew quite loud last week after Arkansas eliminated Tennessee from postseason play. The increase in noise from Arky fans was fueled by Vitello's comments following the Vols' loss to the Razorbacks in Game 2 of the Fayetteville Super Regional.

Vitello, who spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Arkansas before taking over at Tennessee, got emotional while discussing the Razorbacks' coaching staff.

"I miss some of those guys," said a teary-eyed Vitello. "I miss some of those guys. So, they deserve to win. Certainly would like to beat them. I think maybe we play them next year. Some of those guys said things they didn’t have to say, and I think there’s a mutual respect there."

"This league is insane, especially in our sport, what it’ll do to you, and I think we all have a certain amount of respect for each other," added Vitello. "But as you mentioned, I’ve got time here (at Arkansas). And while I was here, I was just as big of a knucklehead as I am now, but I tried to work my ass off. It’s a good place to work.”

There's just one problem with this fantasy scenario from Arkansas fans -- the Razorbacks still have a head coach (and a pretty good one, at that) in Dave Van Horn.

And Van Horn isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

“I’m not going to stop coaching,” said Van Horn to The Omaha World-Herald's Tom Shatel at the College World Series this week. “I’ll be coaching. I’m not retiring. I’m not going anywhere.”

So there you go. Case closed. Van Horn, who is 64 years old, isn't stepping down at Arkansas in the near future.

I don't think Vitello is interested in leaving Tennessee for any job. I think he's extremely happy in Knoxville, and he has incredible support from athletic director Danny White.

Vitello has essentially built the Tennessee program from the ground up, and he's done it his way. You never say never, and no one can predict what will happen in the future, but I'd be stunned if Vitello left Tennessee for another college baseball coaching job (with one caveat: as long as there's harmony between Vitello and the UT athletic department).
