Cade Tyson, an All-Missouri Valley conference second teamer who finished second in the NCAA in three point percentage in 2023-24, committed to Minnesota out of the transfer portal on Sunday according to Joe Tipton of On3.
Tyson was one of the hottest names on the transfer portal market last year, coming off a tremendous sophomore season at Belmont where the 6'7 forward averaged 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 46.5% from three on 5.5 attempts per game.
That led him to commit to North Carolina, where he figured to be a key piece for coach Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels.
However, Tyson never found his footing in Chapel Hill, averaging less than eight minutes per game and posting season averages of 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds, while his three point rate went from 46.5% to 29.2%.

Despite the incredibly rough junior campaign, Tyson was still highly regarded in the transfer portal, with plenty of teams hoping to bring him on board to see if they could recapture some of the magic that made him such an elite offensive weapon while at Belmont.
Gonzaga was reportedly in contact with Tyson at one point this offseason, although his fit on the roster may have been superfluous alongside Steele Venters - a similarly built 6'7 sharpshooter who is expected to make his team debut this season after two years in street clothes thanks to multiple significant injuries.
Ultimately Tyson will land at Minnesota under new head coach Niko Medved, providing some size and floor spacing on the wing for a team that shot just 32.2% from deep last year.
Minnesota has also been connected to the lone remaining Gonzaga player still in the transfer portal, walk-on Graydon Lemke, who redshirted his freshman season in Spokane last year.
