Alabama basketball fans may as well give up on the idea of ever seeing star guard Aden Holloway on their court ever again. Based on the latest report, Holloway will be lucky if he avoids significant jail time in the near future.

According to TMZ, police uncovered 2.1 pounds of marijuana during a search of his home on Monday, per court documents filed on Tuesday. The substance was reportedly found "all over the apartment" along with cash, Promethazine, a rolling tray and packaging materials.

Holloway has been charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp - both of which are felonies. He was released from jail an hour after booking on a $5,000 bond.

Drug Trafficking?

Authorities believe that Holloway wasn't just smoking marijuana for recreational use, but was instead planning that he did “possess, distribute, sell, transport, import, transfer or otherwise use” marijuana without the legally-mandated tax stamp.

More importantly, possession of a full kilo of marijuana can trigger a drug trafficking charge under Alabama law. Such a charge includes a mandatory three-year prison sentence plus a hefty fine. Luckily for Holloway, the amount found at his apartment was a tenth of a pound below that threshold.

Holloway has already been suspended by the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team and head coach Nate Oats has announced that the team expects to continue its NCAA Tournament run without him.

Holloway, who transferred to Alabama from arch-rival Auburn after two years with the Tigers, started 28 games and averaged 16.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists this season.

But basketball needs to be the farthest thing from his mind now.
