Duke survived an upset bid from Georgia Tech during the ACC Tournament this Thursday, but it came at a price for Jon Scheyer's squad. Cooper Flagg and Maliq Brown both suffered injuries in this quarterfinal matchup.
Brown re-dislocated his shoulder, which he first injured in mid-February. Scheyer revealed that his 6-foot-9 forward is at the hospital right now so he can properly deal with the pain. As for Flagg, he suffered an ankle sprain in the final three minutes of the first half.
Flagg was going up for a rebound when he tweaked his left ankle. The former five-star recruit couldn't put weight on his leg when he went to the locker room. He was then spotted in a wheelchair during ESPN's halftime coverage.
Thankfully, the latest update on Flagg is pretty encouraging.
Scheyer revealed that X-rays on Flagg's ankle came back negative. For now, the coaching staff will have to monitor the swelling.
"Cooper sprained his ankle," Scheyer told reporters. "X-rays were negative, which is great. We just have to understand there will be swelling and we'll see how he recovers and how he goes from there."
Despite suffering a devastating injury in the middle of the ACC Tournament, Flagg wouldn't let that derail his afternoon. He returned to Duke's bench to cheer on his teammates.
It's worth noting that Flagg didn't have a walking boot on. Perhaps he avoided a very severe ankle sprain.
Even if Flagg suffered a minor sprain, there's a good chance he'll miss the rest of the ACC Tournament. There's also concern about him missing the NCAA Tournament since it's only a week away.
Flagg is averaging 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for the Blue Devils. Hopefully, he'll recover in time for the start of the NCAA Tournament.
