Mr. Basketball for the state of Michigan, Durral Brooks, confirmed to Dusty May that he will join the Michigan basketball program for the 2024-25 season and beyond.

Brooks, according to a report from Clayton Safie of The Wolverine, along with his high school head coach, met with Dusty May, the new Michigan basketball head coach on Thursday and confirmed his commitment, as well as his status on the Wolverines going forward.

Durral Brooks is confirmed for the 2024-25 season

It was clear that May wanted to keep Brooks in the 2024 class for Michigan basketball going forward. The 6-foot-2 point guard is ranked No. 194 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. However, Brooks averaged 26 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, at least at the time of winning Mr. Basketball.

Brooks is one of two signees in the 2024 recruiting class for the Wolverines. The other recruit is another point guard, Christian Anderson, who has been lighting it up in the EYBL. He’s 5-foot-11 but has proven to be an elite scorer. He’s ranked No. 110 overall in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

What’s next for Dusty May?

May will surely reach out to Anderson too. He’s got a ton of ability and potential. Brooks does too and he’s also capable of being a combo guard, not unlike Eli Brooks. Brooks and Anderson could surely play alongside each other, especially in May’s system which tends to use 3-4 guards.

Michigan has four players on scholarship: Jace Howard, Will Tschetter, Nimari Burnett, and Terrance Williams. It remains to be seen if any of them will be back next season. May said he would meet with all of them in order to make a decision moving forward and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

But we know Brooks will be a Michigan basketball player in 2024-25 and that’s a good place to start for the new head coach.
