Field of 68’s Rob Dauster Lists Kansas Jayhawks as Offseason Losers

Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks are coming off what was widely considered a failure of a transfer portal haul in 2024-25, and the Field of 68’s Rob Dauster doesn’t expect things to get much better in 2025-26.

Dauster recently ranked his 10 biggest offseason losers, and the Kansas Jayhawks were not only featured on the list but also one of college basketball’s biggest losers overall.

Both Rob Dauster and Jeff Goodman listed the Kansas Jayhawks as the second biggest offseason loser of anyone in college basketball, trailing just the Memphis Tigers, who earned the No. 1 spot.

“Just the fact of what they missed on, man, it was shocking,” Goodman said, justifying his placement of Kansas. “Bill Self, you’re missing on Darrion Williams and the [Dame] Sarr kid. I just look at their roster and I’m like ‘Darryn Peterson, I love more than anybody,’ but then you look around and you see, Melvin Council, who can’t really shoot. Tre White has been well-traveled, and you got Flory [Bidunga] back, but Flory’s not a floor spacer last I checked.”

“So, where’s the shooting coming from other than Jayden Dawson, who, oh, by the way, was at Loyola Chicago,” Goodman continued. “I don’t know, man, I just see a lot of issues with this team and how it’s put together. You look at their depth, where’s their depth coming from, Rob?”

The pair then highlighted RJ Luis and Jamir Watkins, who both remained in the NBA Draft, despite some chatter about a possible trip to Kansas. Additionally, the overall roster lacks the typical Bill Self feel.

“A lot would have changed for me if Darrion Williams had picked Kansas over NC State,” Dauster said. “He did not, and that’s kind of where we’re at right now with Kansas.

From being named Preseason No. 1 in 2024-25 to potentially missing out on the Preseason Top 25 one year later, Bill Self finds himself in some unfamiliar territory.
