Florida Defeats Tennessee for First SEC Title Since 2014

The Florida Gators have claimed their fifth SEC Title in program history after defeating the Tennessee Volunteers 86-77. The win today leaves no doubts as to whether the Gators are deserving of a No. 1 seed heading into the NCAA Tournament.

After hanging 104 points on Alabama after a second-half eruption, the Gators pulled away from the Volunteers in an eerily similar fashion. The Gators are going to be a No. 1 seed for the first time since 2014 after breezing through the nation's best conference this season.

Walter Clayton Jr. led the way for the Gators with 22 points, putting a stamp on what's been a sensational SEC Tournament for him. Five Gators eclipsed the double-digit scoring mark, which is turning into a recurring theme for this incredibly balanced group.

The Gators didn't need to shoot the ball particularly well against the Volunteers - but when you take 12 more shots than your opponent over the course of the game, you maximize your scoring chances and margin for error, and that is exactly what the Gators proceeded to do.

Rebounding was a key factor in the decisive victory, with the Gators outrebounding the Volunteers 33-21 overall and 11-4 on the offensive glass. The Gators have been a force on the offensive glass all season and today was no different.

Todd Golden can finally put his money where his mouth is as the Gators have finally secured a No. 1 seed. The fact that Golden confidently claimed his team was deserving of a No. 1 seed before the SEC final game and then made sure his team came out hungry and prepared speaks volumes to the program he's built in Gainesville.

The Gators are now just six wins away from claiming a national title for the first time in nearly two decades. After breezing through what has been the best conference in the country all year, this team looks more than capable of winning the whole thing.
