Former Kansas All-American Calls On Bill Self To Retire

Bill Self has been the head coach of the Kansas men's basketball team for the last 22 seasons.

Self took over the program in 2003 and has led Kansas to the NCAA tournament 21 times. He's also guided Kansas to two national titles and four Final Four berths.

Self led the Jayhawks to the tournament this past season before they lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the first round.

Former Jayhawks All-American Julian Wright played for Self from 2005-07 before becoming a first-round pick in the NBA Draft. He has followed the Jayhawks ever since and called for an "early retirement" from Self in a lengthy Facebook post.

"I’m putting 5% down if we start a GoFundMe to send Bill off to early retirement! Lol! If not, he’s no different than false prophets robbing their 'followers' BLIND! It’s on y’all to see. I want no parts of pouring into KU until Bill is gone! Let somebody else who is passionate about the new world of sports get in there! Old head coaches, respectfully hire players like us as coaches to show young semi-pros how to be full-fledged pros!" part of Wright's post read.

Self has compiled a 624-156 record since taking over the Jayhawks in 2003. Before coaching the Jayhawks, he coached the Illinois Fighting Illini for three seasons, the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes for three seasons, and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles for four seasons.

Even though the Jayhawks have come up short of winning a national title in each of the last three seasons, they just won a national championship in 2022. Self led the Jayhawks to a national title over the North Carolina Tar Heels

Self is 62, but he's not interested in retiring anytime soon, so Wright may not get his wish for a while.
