Two college basketball rivals are squaring off in March Madness as John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks take on Rick Pitino's St. John's Red Storm. It marks the latest edition of a long rivalry between the two coaches.
The peak of the rivalry took place as Calipari coached the Kentucky Wildcats, while Pitino led the Louisville Cardinals. This historic rivalry is one of the biggest in college basketball.
Calipari holds the edge over Pitino with a 16-13 record, including the NBA matchups, per Sports Illustrated's Blake Silverman.
Heading into the second-round matchup, the two coaches discussed the rivalry and their lack of a close relationship. Calipari spoke glowingly about Pitino as a coach, but admitted the two are not exactly friends.
"So, I respect him," Calipari told reporters on Friday. "Again, understand, I don't know how long he was at Louisville when I was at Kentucky, but you're not gonna be friends when you got those two jobs.
"You're not gonna be enemies, but if he's real good, you're like, oh jeez," Calipari added. "And if we were real good, he was probably saying, jeez. I respect coaches that can really do this well."
"Everywhere he's been, he's made a difference."

"It was just a Kentucky, Louisville, Louisville, Memphis thing. You know, John [and I], we don't know each other's wives, we don't know each other's children, you know, so we're not really close friends."
