The Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team entered the 2024-25 season as the No. 1 team in the Associated Press top 25 poll

Kansas began the year with big wins over North Carolina and Duke and some key losses against Creighton and Missouri.

However, Tuesday night was not good one bit for Kansas.

BYU beat Kansas, 91-57, in Provo in a lopsided Big 12 Conference showdown.

It is Kansas' fourth loss in six games in February and second straight loss, with the other coming against Utah on Saturday, also on the road.

Kansas added South Dakota State transfer Zeke Mayo and got Hunter Dickinson to return for the 2024-25 season, although nobody expected Kansas to play like this just a few days away from March.

After the loss, the negative reactions were swirling rapidly online.

"So this is what rock bottom feels like huh? I think we can go just a bit lower if I’m being honest.." one fan wrote

"we have officially hit ROCK BOTTOM," another stated

"Its crazy how bad they have fallen," said another

"Incredibly embarrassing. Just throw in the towel," another commented

"This team doesn't deserve a spot in the big dance such a disappointing year," another stated

"In my 39 years on earth, 32 I would say being a Kansas basketball fan…never would have thought this season was possible. Just gross in every way," a Kansas fan wrote

The loss on Tuesday was the first time Kansas had lost by 30+ points to an unranked opponent since the AP poll began, per OptaSTATS

It was never a close game, either, as BYU went into halftime with a commanding 46-26 lead and ended up winning by 37 points.

Kansas entered with a No. 23 ranking in the latest AP poll, although this ugly loss could very well drop them out of the picture when the new polls are released.
