Head coach Bill Self has brought in several talents through the recruiting cycle, including five-star prospect Darryn Peterson and four-star signee Kohl Rosario.

The additions did not stop there, following the commitment from 6-foot-11 big man Paul Mbiya, per Joe Tipton.

Mbiya, an international prospect from the Democratic Republic of Congo, originally signed with NC State before reopening his recruitment.

The newest Jayhawk competed in the under-21 French league last season and excelled with averages of 15.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and three blocks per outing. With a 7-foot-7 wingspan, Mbiya will provide strong paint presence.

KU added Mbiya to its frontcourt depth, next to rising sophomore forward Flory Bidunga, who tallied 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season. He knocked down 69.8% of his shots from the floor.

Several reports stated that the Oregon Ducks were in the mix for Mbiya before he decided to sign with the Jayhawks.

247Sports ranks Self’s recruiting class as the fourth-best in the country in the 2025 class, trailing Duke, Houston and Arizona.

Last season, Kansas finished 21-13 and was knocked out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The team has not made it past the second round since winning the National Championship in 2022.
