Well, here’s a graph Kansas State fans won’t want to see, but we’re going to show it anyway!
Jerome Tang has his team in an awful spot this season, and a recent graph from college basketball guru Nick Bateman highlights adjusted offensive rating vs. team rebounds and turnovers forced, as well as opponent rebounds and opponent turnovers forced. For those wondering at home, you want to be in the top right quadrant of the graph. Go ahead and try to find K-State.

You want to be in the top right quadrant. If you aren't in the top right quadrant you're gonna struggle in March plain and simple.

If you squint closely and focus on the bottom left, Kansas State is hovering around the 110 adjusted offensive rating spot, below average for sure, but in a similar spot to that of Cincinnati and a few other notable teams. The issue comes when looking at the opposite side of the graph, however, as Kansas State is one of the worst teams in the picture when comparing team rebounds and turnovers forced to opponent rebounds and turnovers forced. Nowhere near where you want to be, to put it lightly.
It’s a bit of a shocker for Kansas State, honestly, as the Wildcats poured a bunch of money into their roster for the 2025-26 season, and they have a 10-10 overall record and a 1-6 conference record to show for it. On paper, the roster should be better than it is. They’re led by one of America’s best scoring guards in PJ Haggerty, alongside Monmouth transfer Abdi Bashir, and the MAC Player of the Year, Nate Johnson. Well, Bashir is hurt, and Johnson continues to struggle, and there isn’t even a sense of life in the front court.
From start to finish, the roster has been poorly constructed, and now Kansas State fans will likely be witnessing a third-straight year with no trips to the NCAA Tournament. That was the nail in the coffin for Bruce Webber. Will it be the same for Jerome Tang?
