As the college basketball world closely monitors roster developments ahead of the 2025–26 season, Kentucky fans received a notable update on one of the team’s key returning players — Otega Oweh.

During a Q&A session on assistant coach Alvin Brooks III’s Instagram story Tuesday, Brooks took time to answer questions from fans, providing insight into the program’s current direction under head coach Mark Pope. One fan asked a question that caught the attention of Big Blue Nation: “What are the chances Otega Oweh returns to Kentucky?”

Brooks responded with honesty and support, stating.

“He’s focused on NBA preparation right now," Brooks said on his Instagram Story. "We’re supporting him every way we can.”

His comment makes it clear that while Oweh remains in the NBA Draft pool, Kentucky’s staff is backing him fully — regardless of whether he chooses to remain in the draft or return for one more season in Lexington.

Oweh, a 6-foot-5 rising senior guard, declared for the NBA Draft earlier this offseason while maintaining his college eligibility. His decision generated plenty of buzz, as he was a standout performer for Kentucky last season, averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Known for his elite athleticism, tenacious defense, and dynamic scoring ability, Oweh quickly became one of the Wildcats’ most reliable two-way players.

His entry into the NBA Draft is a strategic move common among upperclassmen looking to gauge their stock while retaining the option to return to school. NCAA rules allow players to withdraw by May 29 and still be eligible to compete in college for the upcoming season.

Brooks’ response underscores what the coaching staff has emphasized in recent weeks — a player-first approach focused on development, transparency, and trust. That mindset has already helped establish strong relationships with current players and incoming transfers, showing that the program values long-term support as much as short-term results.

While fans may be eager for clarity on Oweh’s future, his decision is still unfolding. If he elects to stay in the draft, Kentucky will likely look to fill his spot through the transfer portal. If he returns, the Wildcats retain an experienced guard that has proven to be an SEC star — a major asset for a team looking to reload and contend.

As May 29 approaches, all eyes will be on Oweh’s next move. Regardless of the outcome, it’s clear that Kentucky stands firmly behind one of its most talented players.
