The Kentucky Wildcats are officially in the running for one of the top prospects in the 2026 class, as 5-star forward Anthony Thompson trimmed his college list to 15 schools — and Kentucky made the cut.

Thompson, a rising star out of Lebanon, Ohio, announced Friday via Instagram that he is down to 15 programs after receiving offers from over 30 schools. Along with Kentucky, his list includes Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, BYU, North Carolina, Louisville, Auburn, Indiana, Xavier, Texas, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Georgetown.

Standing at 6-foot-8, Thompson has soared up the national recruiting rankings, currently ranked as high as No. 5 overall in the 2026 class according to On3. His combination of length, athleticism, and shooting touch makes him one of the most coveted players in the country.

Mark Pope and lead assistant Cody Fueger have been aggressive in recruiting Thompson, visiting him this past week to solidify their position. Thompson is no stranger to Lexington, either. He previously attended Kentucky’s win over Florida at Rupp Arena earlier this year and took in Big Blue Madness in the fall, where he officially received his scholarship offer.

Following his visit to Rupp, Thompson had high praise for Pope and the Wildcats’ program.

“It was good to go there and see it in person," Thompson telling Jamie Shaw of On3 back in February. "This was my first trip there, so it was good to see how they played in-game and their play style live. I was watching their wings and what they do with Koby Brea and Jaxon Robinson. They’re both shooters, so I was able to see in person what they did. I talk with the staff a lot. We call or text often. Coach (Mark) Pope is a great person and coach. He’s very positive and there for his players. He is a player’s coach, and always there to help out.”

Thompson’s ability to shoot from multiple spots on the floor while using his length to disrupt opponents on both ends makes him a perfect fit for Pope’s system, which prioritizes floor spacing, pace, and positional versatility.

Although it’s still early in the recruiting process, Kentucky’s strong early relationship with Thompson could pay major dividends down the road. With his list now narrowed, Big Blue Nation will want to keep a close eye as one of the nation's top talents continues to move closer to making a decision.
