As the transfer portal heats up, the Wildcats have expressed early interest in a promising SEC forward
Kentucky’s transfer portal activity continues to build momentum as more high-major talent becomes available. Among the newest names on the radar is Alabama forward Mouhamed Dioubate, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on Friday. According to multiple reports, Kentucky has already made contact with Dioubate’s representatives, signaling potential interest in the 6-foot-7 sophomore as they look to reshape their roster.

Dioubate, a former four-star prospect from New York City, saw a notable increase in responsibility during his second season with the Crimson Tide. After a limited role as a freshman, he averaged 16 minutes per game in 2023–24, contributing 7.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per contest. His efficiency stood out: Dioubate converted 61.7% of his field goal attempts and made a significant leap from deep, shooting 46.2% on limited three-point attempts after going just 1-for-11 the previous year.
Beyond the numbers, Dioubate earned consistent praise from Alabama head coach Nate Oats for his energy, physicality, and team-first mentality. He played a key role in several matchups, including Alabama’s wins over Kentucky, where he posted a combined 12 points and 13 rebounds across two games. Notably, his defensive performance helped limit Kentucky guard Otega Oweh to a quiet outing in their second meeting.

Dioubate’s decision to enter the portal appears rooted in a desire for a larger role. Speaking to The Tuscaloosa News following Alabama’s Elite Eight loss to Duke, he emphasized his goal of becoming a starter and seeing more consistent minutes. The same day he announced his decision, Alabama added Florida State transfer Taylor Bol Bowen to its frontcourt, a move that likely influenced the timing of Dioubate’s departure.
For Kentucky, Dioubate offers an appealing mix of athleticism, versatility, and untapped upside. His ability to finish around the rim, defend multiple positions, and stretch the floor, even in limited volume, aligns with the modern forward prototype. With two years of eligibility remaining, he could represent a developmental investment as well as an immediate contributor.
As the Wildcats evaluate their options in the transfer portal ahead of the April 22 deadline, Dioubate is a name worth watching. His SEC experience and upward trajectory could make him a valuable piece for a Kentucky team aiming to reestablish its competitive edge in the postseason.
