PHOENIX- One of the University of Arizona’s (U of A) top-performing players, Caleb Love had already shown off his star talent on the court during the 2024-25 basketball season pre-NCAA championship. However, after the second-round matchup in the NCAA championship, this unstoppable athlete truly shined as he led his team to victory against Oregon, resulting in an 87-83 win. It was a dominant effort from forward Caleb Love, which powered his U of A Wildcats to take the win in the second round of East Region play—at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Sunday night.

Love stole the spotlight against Oregon as he not only shined with his team but also excelled as an individual athlete during this nerve wrecking game. He accumulated 29 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, shooting 10-for-18 from the field and 5-for-7 from 3-point range. Each point really emphasized the statement Love was putting out on the court letting Oregon know ‘we’re not backing down’. Speculators highlight Love’s most memorable moment against Oregon as his thrilling dunk with less than three minutes left on the clock. This energetic dunk left the court shaken and the crowds screaming as Love slammed the ball into the net, putting the Wildcats up 77-70. Not to mention, in the first round of the NCAA championship game against Akron, Love had a strong showing with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Some additional highlights of Love’s senior year so far include receiving one of only five Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year awards. He also became the 13th player in NCAA history to score a total of 1,000 points at two different universities—Arizona and the University of North Carolina. Love has also been named to multiple preseason first teams, including the All-Big 12 and the Associated Press All-American teams.

After tonight’s big victory, the Wildcats advance to the Sweet 16 as they face new challenges and tougher teams. They are set to play the No. 1 seed, Duke University, on Thursday night. Love will face off against freshman star Cooper Flagg, and with both being strong forwards, it should be an exciting matchup. Now, with the Sweet 16 within their sights, the Wildcats, led by Love’s dominating performance, are ready to face whatever comes next.
