If any coach in college basketball could be the poster child of hard-nosed coaching, look no further than UCLA Bruins head coach Mick Cronin.
Cronin is one of those coaches who often toes the line between tough coaching and being extremely over-the-top. Whether it’s berating a referee for supposedly messing up a call or hastily ejecting his own players from intense rivalry games, such as he did with Steven Jamerson against Michigan State, Cronin has a certain coaching style that is met with admiration and criticism from both extremes of the spectrum, for better or worse.
Nonetheless, Cronin isn’t ready to change his ways anytime soon. On a recent episode of Wake Up Barstool, Cronin explained why he coaches in such an imposing manner and how he believes it could help college athletes later on in life.
Now, Cronin will focus his efforts on finding guys that will fit his rigid system for next season and beyond. The team fell flat in the Round of 32 this season against UConn, and Cronin and his staff will work to find quality players that can get UCLA back to where they want to be. However, Cronin's coaching style is unlikely to change.
