The Ole Miss men's basketball team was one of the most unexpected success stories in college sports last season. Second-year head coach Chris Beard brought the team to national prominence, leading them to a winning record in a brutal SEC conference and a spot in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Unfortunately, most of last year's roster is gone because a majority of the rotation was seniors, and several others left through the transfer portal. Beard has already begun rebuilding the team this offseason, as he added a handful of highly sought-after transfers, highlighted by Kansas star AJ Storr.
Ole Miss was not done adding players, however, as former Kentucky guard Travis Perry announced his commitment to Coach Beard and the Rebels on Sunday. Perry was coveted by Beard coming out of high school, and after one season with the Wildcats, he found a new home in Oxford, Mississippi.
Perry played in 31 games at Kentucky last year, scoring 2.7 points per game in just 9.8 minutes of action. He shot 32.1% from the three-point line and had two double-digit scoring efforts, both of which came against Alabama.
In his lone game against the Rebels last season, Perry scored five points and recorded two rebounds, also dishing out two assists. He'll now look to be a pivotal part of Ole Miss' rotation this season and for years to come.
