Jorge Diaz Graham is back in action for Pitt.
On Tuesday, Pitt basketball posted a video of Zack Austin dunking a ball in practice on a baseline drive. In the video, Jorge Diaz Graham, number 31, runs in late on defense to try to help out his brother Guillermo and catch up to stop Austin at the rim. Pitt then confirmed with Pittsburgh Sports Now that Diaz Graham has been fully cleared for five-on-five and contact activities.

After missing the end of last season due to an ankle injury which required surgery, Diaz Graham underwent surgery for a core muscle injury back in late May. He was sidelined for, at the time, an estimated eight weeks. When Jeff Capel caught up with local media members on Aug. 1, he updated Diaz Graham’s status.
“Jorge is going to the doctor today, and hopefully he’s fully cleared,” Capel said on August 1, last time he spoke with media. “He’s fully cleared with the foot. He had a sports hernia that he had to have a little surgery on. That’s the last part, hopefully he’s cleared with that. He’s doing everything except five on five. Workouts, he’s doing everything. He’s been doing everything for a while, it’s just the five-on-five part.”
It appears as though he was competing in a five-on-five setting in the video posted Tuesday.
Diaz Graham appeared in 16 games off the bench last year, averaging just over ten minutes per game. He made 16 of his 44 attempts from the field, including nine of his 31 three-point tries (29%). Diaz Graham averaged 3.5 points per game, and grabbed 40 rebounds on the season. He had 12 assists and 11 turnovers on the year.
As a freshman in 2022-23, Diaz Graham averaged 3.1 points per game, appearing in 31 games and starting once. He hit 12 of his 34 three-point attempts as a rookie (35%). He played ten minutes in Pitt’s NCAA Tournament game against Iowa State, scoring two points and grabbing five rebounds. Against Xavier, he had seven points.
