Report: Bobby Hurley Adds 6'11 Senegalese Center to Arizona State Frontcourt

Bobby Hurley and the Arizona State Sun Devils are reportedly adding some much needed reinforcement to their frontcourt in Mor Massamba Diop, a 6'11 center from Senegal who most recently played for Gran Canaria in Spain.

The 20-year-old averaged 16.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 14 minutes per game for Gran Canaria's B team last season and will bring size and rebounding to a team that lost its entire frontcourt from last season.

Diop joins 6'9 San Diego transfer Santiago Trouet and 6'8 incoming freshman center Marcus Jackson as new bigs for coach Hurley's team, who lost Jayden Quaintance (Kentucky) and Shawn Phillips (Missouri) to the transfer portal, as well as Basheer Jihad and Connor Braun to graduation and four-star center Fridrik Leo who decommitted back on April 19.

Diop is a plus athlete who has displayed strong ball-handling ability for his size. Although he's not a floor spacer - attempting just two three-pointers last year - he did shoot a healthy 75.5% from the free throw line.

Typically international players who sign this late in the offseason are not heavily utilized in year one, but Arizona State may end up relying on Diop quite a bit with a lack of other options in the frontcourt.

At the very least, Diop can serve as a quality rim-runner and lob threat in the early going, much like Phillips' role last year.

Diop is the 12th addition to Arizona State's completely rebuilt roster this offseason after a 15th place finish in the Big 12 last year.
