The '300-strikeout MLB seasons' quiz

The cure for ailing MLB teams this year seems to be playing either the New York Yankees or Mets in the month of June. While the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels were combining to give the Yankees six-straight losses, the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves gave the Mets five in a row. The fifth one came at the hands of a dominant performance from Braves starter Chris Sale, who went 8.2 shutout innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk.

He also capped his night with a web gem as well, diving for a ball nubbed into no-man’s land off the bat of Juan Soto and throwing the superstar out at first to start the bottom of the ninth inning. Sale won the National League Cy Young Award in his first season with the Braves in 2024, but after his campaign ended with another injury Braves fans had to be apprehensive about the Chris Sale they’d see in 2025. While they've had plenty of reasons for disappointment, he hasn’t been one of them.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Sale is one of just five active pitchers to reach the 300-strikeout milestone in a single season. How many of the 38 total pitchers to achieve the feat since 1900 can you name in six minutes?

Good luck!
