In one of the bigger upsets of the NCAA Tournament, Rick Pitino and his St. John's Red Storm lost to John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks in the Round of 32 on Saturday.
The second-seeded Red Storm entered the game as the betting favorites, but a strong second half allowed the Razorbacks to pull away for good. It also didn't help St. John's that it shot a horrendous 28.0 percent from the field and 9.1 percent from deep.
Billy Richmond III led the way for Arkansas, scoring 16 points off the bench. Karter Knox also chipped in 15 for the Razorbacks, while Johnell Davis added 13.
For St. John's, Zuby Ejiofor dropped 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, but the rest of his teammates struggled offensively. In fact, RJ Luis Jr.—who averaged over 18 points per game during the 2024-25 season—shot 3-of-17 from the field and only had nine points.
While it wasn't the ending that St. John's expected, especially when they were up against a 10th seed, the team still had nothing but appreciation for the season they had.
Following their defeat, St. John's Men's Basketball posted on X to share its parting message to the fans and reflect on the campaign it had.
"What a season," St. John's wrote. "Thank you fans and #JohnnieNation for your support and love throughout the year. It was a special season, and we are proud to have New York City behind us. We will be back!"

For what it's worth, Rick Pitino himself also sent an emotional message following their loss. He particularly addressed the seniors who played their final game with the team.
"Thank you seniors," Pitino wrote on X. "Losing always hurts, but you played with torn ligaments, sprained shoulders, pulled groins and you gave us a magical run. We will always cherish our time together."
Despite the defeat, St. John's future remains bright with Pitino at the helm. Prior to their first-round win against the Omaha Mavericks, the Red Storm had not won an NCAA Tournament game in 25 years.
Now, hopes are high that the team will be regular contenders in the Big Dance.
