Texas duo Max Abmas, Dylan Disu sign undrafted free agent deals with Jazz, Raptors
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Former Texas players Dylan Disu and Max Abmas are heading to the NBA and have inked deals after not being selected in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Texas Men’s Basketball Twitter account tweeted out news of Disu signing with the Toronto Raptors, and ClutchPoints reports that he’s inked an Exhibit 10 contract. Meanwhile, The Athletic’s Tony Jones reported that Max Abmas has signed to play for the Utah Jazz in the summer league.

“The Utah Jazz are signing point guard Max Abmas to their summer league roster, League Sources tell The Athletic,” Jones tweeted. “Abmas has been one of the most prolific scoring guards in college basketball.”

Disu put together his best season at Texas this past season, averaging a career-high 15.5 points to go with 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. It was an impressive leap forward in his third season with the program after starting his career at Vanderbilt.

Disu spent two years with the Commodores and had a strong sophomore season in 2020-21. He averaged 10 points and a career-high 9.2 rebounds before entering the transfer portal and taking his talents to Texas.

After his senior season, Disu could’ve declared for the NBA Draft. However, he opted to return to Austin for a fifth season of college basketball, and that decision paid off in a big way as he helped Texas to a 21-13 overall record, including a 9-9 record in SEC play.

During the pre-draft process, Dylan Disu was one of a handful of players to work out with the Minnesota Timberwolves on June 12. He came in as a projected late-second round or potential undrafted free agent ahead of the draft.

Disu played high school basketball at Hendrickson (Tx.) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 101 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As for “Mad Max” Abmas, well, he’s only one of the most prolific scorers to ever step foot on an NCAA basketball court. He played four full seasons at Oral Roberts, including the legendary 2021 season, where ORU upset No. 2 seed Ohio State and came within a buzzer-beater of beating Arkansas to be the first 15-seed to advance to the Elite Eight — a feat that Saint Peter’s would achieve the next season.

All told, Abmas finished out his final year at Texas and ended his illustrious college career with 3,132 total points. That’s good for eighth on the ALL-TIME Div. I scoring tally.
