The UConn Huskies have added some serious talent in recent days since their second-round exit in the NCAA Tournament. The Big East program lost to the eventual national champion Florida Gators, but head coach Dan Hurley has the team already looking forward to a possible rebound in 2025 with transfer portal success.

On Monday, the team secured a portal commitment from former Dayton Flyers guard Malachi Smith. The 6-foot, 175-pounder averaged 10.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game for the A-10 squad.

Smith joined guard Silas Demary Jr., who committed to the Huskies after two seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs.

On Tuesday, UConn announced a home-and-home series with the Arizona Wildcats, starting this season with a contest at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. In 2026, the Huskies will travel to Arizona to play at the McKale Center in Tucson.

Smith and Demary will bolster the Huskies' backcourt as both will join guard Solo Ball. The aptly-named player averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game last season.

UConn also has a big-time recruit, guard Braylon Mullins, coming in next season. The Greenfield, Indiana native is rated five stars by ESPN.

UConn and Arizona have met seven times over their history. After winning the first five matchups from 1999 to 2011, the Huskies have dropped the last two games to the Wildcats, most recently a 76-72 loss in 2018. That season was Hurley's first with the program and marks the last time UConn finished with a losing record (16-17).
