The Golden Bears came up just short of an incredible comeback, but the Hokies walked away with a 71-68 road victory. Cal trailed by as many as 22 in the second half and they were down by 21 with 13:30 left in the game, but then Cal went on a 26-5 run to tie up the game. Virginia Tech responded with a 9-0 run to retake control of the game, but still, Cal's Andrej Stojakovic had a game-tying three-pointer in the closing seconds rim out. Tyler Johnson had a double-double for the Hokies with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jaydon Young had 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Mylyjael Poteat and Brandon Rechsteiner each scored 12 points. For Cal, Stojakovic scored 22 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. Jeremiah Wilkinson added 14 points.
