Flau’Jae Johnson never expected to cry. Yet after leading the Tigers to the Sweet Sixteen in her final game at the PMAC, the emotions hit harder than she anticipated.
The Senior LSU guard helped the Tigers enter the Sweet Sixteen on March 22 for the 4th consecutive year. The 101-47 victory over Texas Tech was staggering, with the 24-point boost from Johnson. But the 22-year-old left the paint in tears.
ESPN disclosed the reason with an X post, captioning, “Flau’jae Johnson checks out for her final time as an LSU Tiger at the PMAC”. The Tigers’ star reposted it, and her caption was even more emotional: “4 EVER L S U.”
In her farewell, a very emotional Flau’Jae hugged her teammates one by one. She held back until there was Coach Kim Mulkey. Next thing, Johnson was barely holding back her tears in Mulkey’s embrace as the coach tapped the player’s back for the final time.

After that hug, a crying Johnson pulled away, shook hands, and hugged the rest of the players and staff.
Averaging 14.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for the season, Johnson had been the cornerstone of Mulkey’s program. As a freshman, she led the Tigers to a title win in 2023 with several other achievements. She never expected an emotional goodbye.
“Nah”, she said earlier in the season when asked if she’d be sad when the final buzzer sounded on her LSU career. “These last four years, I gave everything. I lived in the gym. I didn’t do much partying. I really poured everything I could into LSU.”
But when the final buzzer actually rang, the scenario was different. Even Mulkey “was trying not to cry,” as she praised Johnson’s last run in PMAC. And this time, Johnson shared what she experienced.
“I knew I was going to lose it, but I was holding strong,” she said. “Then my teammates came and hugged me, and it was like a roar I heard in that PMAC… I gave everything I had and just let everything out. It was the most beautiful thing that I’ve been a part of.”
So, as Johnson prepares to possibly prepres to transtion to pro basketball, do you think LSU will be able to highlight Johnson’s season with a title win? Comment it down.
