LSU women's basketball head coach Kim Mulkey has had an up-and-down relationship with the media over the years.
Before last weekend though, we don't know if she's ever called out a reporter for eating in the vicinity of her postgame press conference. That's what happened though following LSU's loss to Texas in the SEC Tournament semifinals on Saturday. As she was about to field questions from the media, Mulkey pointed out a writer who was noshing on a mozzarella stick.
"Are they media over there or are they just eating?" Mulkey questioned, laughing after a few seconds of awkward silence.
As it turns out, the writer in question, Lulu Kesin, wasn't even in the designated press conference area. Rather, she was at a table off to the side.
Kesin, who covers South Carolina women's basketball for the Greenville News, posted the video clip on X/Twitter, along with a picture showing where she was seated.
"Sitting far away from the press conference, I was off to the side writing when Kim Mulkey saw me take a bite of my mozzarella stick," Kesin said. "For context this is how far away I was, I was NOT sitting in the press conference eating.

All in all, not a huge deal, even if it was weird for Mulkey to single Kesin out like this when she wasn't even participating in the press conference.
LSU, which finished third in the highly-competitive SEC this season, lost 56-49 to second-seeded Texas in the semifinals Saturday. The Longhorns went on to fall to top-seeded South Carolina, the team Kesin chronicles, in the title game on Sunday.
LSU enters the NCAA Tournament 28-5 and is expected to receive a high seed when the bracket is revealed Sunday night. The Tigers lost in the Elite Eight last year after winning the national championship under Mulkey in 2023.
