The No. 1 seed USC Trojans women's basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 96-59 victory over No. 9 Mississippi State on Monday.

Unfortunately, USC saw superstar JuJu Watkins leave in the first quarter with an injury. Watkins fell to the floor in pain and had to be carried off the court as the fans held their breath.

Right after the game, USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb said she did not have an update on her star.

However, the USC account revealed a crushing update on Watkins shortly after, and it is not what anybody wants to hear.

"JuJu Watkins sustained a season-ending injury in the NCAA Second Round on Monday night. She will undergo surgery and then begin rehabilitation shortly thereafter."

Watkins played just five minutes before suffering the injury.

Now, she is out for the rest of the year a massive hit to the Trojans' title hopes.

Watkins has been a superstar star for USC, averaging 24.6 points with 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists on the year. In USC's first-round game in the NCAA Tournament, Watkins had 22 points with eight rebounds in just 28 minutes the blowout win over UNCG.

USC now will have to manage without Watkins for the rest of March Madness, and the first game without the star will be on Saturday against No. 5 Kansas State.
