Almost all high school recruiting attention is currently on the Class of 2027, with pivotal official visit weekends occurring throughout the next month. However, that does not mean that every program doesn’t have an eye on the Class of 2028 and beyond. A couple of schools already have multiple commitments, while a few surprising ones have already pulled in their first.
There is no reason to panic if your favorite program doesn’t have a Class of 2028 commitment yet. There are only 11 FBS programs that have at least one commitment and only two with more than one. Not surprisingly, those two are annually amongst the top recruiting programs:
The Bulldogs not only have two four-star commitments, but they also found their Class of 2028 quarterback. The first to commit was tight end Asa Wall (Milledgeville, GA), who received his first two offers in June 2025 from Georgia and Alabama. A few more arrived before he committed to the Bulldogs in mid-October. The offers have continued to roll in since then, with Penn State, Florida, SMU, Oregon and Virginia Tech being just a few of them.
A month later, quarterback Jayden Wade (Bradenton, FL) joined Wall. Amazingly, he received his offer from Georgia way back in December 2023, which was his third FBS offer after San Jose State and Utah. The California native now plays for national power IMG Academy, where he has continued to improve his skillset. Since his commitment, LSU, UCLA and Alabama have offered.
The Buckeyes’ first commitment came from another IMG Academy player; four-star running back Elijah Newman-Hall (Bradenton, FL). Newman-Hall started his high school career in Tampa before making the short move to IMG Academy. He committed a few days after attending Ohio State’s summer camp last year and has since seen new offers come in from Tennessee and Florida.
Then in mid-October, four-star in-state defensive end Jameer Whyce (Trotwood, OH) committed. He picked up his offer from Ohio State in June before waiting four months to commit. Since he committed, notable offers have come in from Notre Dame and LSU.
The remaining nine schools that have an early commitment are a mixture of expected and surprising. Some of the non-surprising are Miami, Alabama and Penn State, while the same can’t be said for the early success from Boise State, Arizona and Syracuse.
Aside from Georgia and Ohio State, the only other four-star commitments have gone to Penn State, cornerback Deonte Flemings Jr. (Erie, PA), and Syracuse, offensive tackle Omari Lawson (Jacksonville, FL). Since it’s so early in the process, grabbing a four-star commitment is good but can be misleading. While there is a chance that they can become five-stars, there is an even better chance that they end up becoming a three-star.
Finally, as mentioned above, with the addition of Wade, Georgia already has a quarterback commitment. Some programs add two quarterbacks in a class, but for most it is one-and-done. To have this extremely important part of a recruiting class completed this early, is an extra bonus. This is why it is worth noting that there have already been three other Class of 2028 quarterback commitments. These are Charles Scott Jr. (Richmond, VA) to Alabama, Knox Annis (Jacksonville, FL) to Miami and Zeke Thomas (Eugene, OR) to Boise State.
There are many twists and turns ahead for the Class of 2028, but for these schools, they have a head start.
