Even with one of the top ranked class of 2026 recruiting classes at No. 7 overall , Texas A&M fell short in the battle over 4-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton. On June 11, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett, Carlton canceled his official visit with the Aggies proceeding his visit with the Texas Longhorns.

The 6'5, 260-pound EDGE is ranked No. 39 overall and No. 4 across defensive linemen in the country.

The Aggies were one of five schools Carlton narrowed his 27 offers down to alongside Texas, Baylor, LSU, and Texas Tech. While the visit cancellation doesn't seal Texas A&M's fate, it is more than likely the Temple, Texas native will find his home with the Longhorns. His official decision will come out July 10.

Regardless of Carlton's choice, the Aggies two, 4-star EDGE recruits in Jordan Carter and Samu Moala. The 6'4, 235-pound Georgia native is ranked No. 122 in the country and No. 16 among edges. The 6'4, 225-pound California native is ranked No. 257 overall and No. 24 among edges.

So while adding an elite player like Carlton would only boost the Aggies' class of 2026, head coach Mike Elko doesn't have much to worry about with six defensive recruits having already declared their commitment.

The Aggies currently have 14 hard commits including Carter and Maola. The other 4-star commits include cornerback Victor Singleton, running back Jonathan Hatton Jr., wide receiver Aaron Gregory, defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler, wide receiver Madden Williams, tight end Caleb Tafua, and quarterback Helaman Casuga. Three-star players, linebacker Storm Miller, cornerback Camren Hamiel, safety Chance Collins, wide receiver Mike Brown, and kicker Asher Murray make up the remaining class recruits.
