4-Star Texas A&M Commit Makes Major Recruiting Announcement On Monday

Texas A&M and head coach Mike Elko are pushing for a second consecutive top-10 recruiting class.

Much was made about Elko's potential fit with the Aggies after the firing of Jimbo Fisher during the 2023 season.

Elko had previously built Duke into an ACC contender before taking the role in College Station. Questions remained, though, if he could continue Texas A&M's hot streak on the recruiting trail.

Elko's first full recruiting cycle was a promising start with the No. 10 class in the nation. And it appears that the trend will continue in the 2026 cycle, as the Aggies currently sit seventh nationally

Part of the challenge is keeping commits in the fold, and Elko and Co. landed a key win in that aspect on Monday after an announcement by four-star tight end Caleb Tafua.

Tafua (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) plays for Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California, where he ranks as the No. 13 tight end and the No. 28 player in the state (247Sports).

Texas A&M gained Tafua's commitment back in December. After making an official visit to in-state Cal in April, Tafua was back in College Station over the weekend.

And it seems that trip paid off, as Tafua revealed on Monday that he has shut down his recruitment in favor of Texas A&M.

"7000% COMMITTED," Tafua wrote on X. "OFFICIALLY SHUTTING DOWN MY RECRUITMENT. #GigEm"

Tafua recorded 44 receptions for 795 yards (18.1 yard average) with 10 touchdowns as a junior for Bishop Montgomery last season (MaxPreps).

Texas A&M's 2026 class holds multiple highly-coveted offensive talents, including Tafua, four-star quarterback Helaman Casuga, four-star running back Jonathan Hatton Jr. and four-star wide receivers Aaron Gregory and Madden Williams.
