The University of Kansas has announced a transformational $300 million gift from longtime donor David Booth, a contribution believed to be among the largest single gifts ever made to a college athletics program.

The announcement marks a historic moment for KU Athletics, both in scale and in the opportunities it will create for the department’s future.

Booth, whose name already adorns Kansas’ football stadium, has been a cornerstone supporter of the university for decades. His latest gift dwarfs typical contributions seen in college athletics and underscores his commitment to helping Kansas compete at the highest level. While the university has yet to outline every specific use of the funds, the donation is expected to accelerate facility upgrades and contributions toward the gateway district, enhance athlete support services, and bolster the school’s competitive standing nationally.

“This gift will transform Kansas Athletics for generations,” athletic director Travis Goff said in a statement. “David Booth’s generosity reflects his deep belief in our mission and his vision for what Jayhawk Athletics can achieve.”

The magnitude of the donation places it among the largest ever in the NCAA landscape, rivaling high-profile gifts to programs like Oregon, Stanford, and Texas A&M. For Kansas, it comes at a time of growing momentum across multiple sports, including football’s resurgence under Lance Leipold and basketball’s continued place among the nation’s elite.

Booth’s ties to the university stretch beyond athletics, with substantial contributions to academic and campus initiatives over the years. His investment signals not only confidence in the direction of Kansas Athletics but also a desire to see the Jayhawks maintain and expand their place in the evolving world of college sports.
