Alabama makes decision on kicker roles

Alabama football will have Conor Talty kicking its field goals this fall after he beat out transfer Lorcan Quinn for the role, according to Yea Alabama.

Quinn will reportedly handle all of the kickoff duties.

Talty started at kicker for Alabama last season. He made all of his PATs and was 16-of-23 on his field goal attempts last year.

Quinn transferred to Alabama from Marshall, and the battle between him and Talty had been described as a close one throughout fall camp.

“I’ll just tell you, I’m not afraid to brag on these guys,” DeBoer previously said. “They both kicked at the end of a two-minute period yesterday, went back to back. I gave both guys a shot from 58. Both of them hit it, and I just think I’ve told you guys, it isn’t about distance. And yes, at some point you’re only kicking so far, but there was really no doubters when they hit it. These guys are competing, and they are battling, and they’re, like I said all along, two extremely talented guys and so that competition is still going.”
