Alabama QB Bryce Young to sit out vs. Texas A&M for 'precautionary' reasons

When the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide take the field for Saturday's big contest with the Texas A&M Aggies, they'll do so without starting quarterback Bryce Young.

Young is currently nursing a shoulder injury sustained last week against No. 20 Arkansas.

Initially expected to be a game-time decision for the matchup versus the Aggies after practicing this week, Alabama will reportedly keep the junior on the sidelines Saturday for "precautionary" reasons.

Earlier this week, head coach Nick Saban said Young's injury was going to be a "pain-tolerance thing," adding that there's nothing structurally wrong with his rotator cuff, as many feared.

Alabama will now turn to backup Jalen Milroe to lead the way under center, if only for a week.

Milroe filled in nicely last Saturday against Arkansas in place of the injured Young. The freshman finished the day four-of-nine for 65 yards with a touchdown through the air, plus 91 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

When asked about Milroe last week, Saban praised his versatility and the quarterback's growth in the pocket.

"He's made a tremendous amount of improvement as a passer, as a guy who understands the offense," Saban said. "We've never really done things that he can do really well in the game. He would be a guy that would be really great running some QB runs with."
