Alabama tight end representing model of consistency

One of the most consistent players on the Alabama football roster is a tight end, who deserves to be talked about more.

Josh Cuevas came up big twice in Alabama football’s latest win over South Carolina. He worked himself into an opening in the South Carolina defense on 4th and goal in the second quarter to give the Crimson Tide a touchdown lead over the Gamecocks. Alabama leaned on the 6-foot-3, 256-pounder later in the game when Ty Simpson found Cuevas to convert a two-point try to tie the game at 22 in the fourth quarter.

These plays prove to play critical roles in the Tide improving to 7-1 on the season. While his stats are not what many would call head-turning, Cuevas has been consistently dependable throughout the season.

Simpson recently referred to the tight end as a reliable weapon.

“He’s like a safety blanket,” Simpson said. “Not many tight ends can act like Travis Kelce and block like George Kittle.”

The Washington transfer has pulled in 203 yards and three touchdowns on 20 receptions, averaging 10 yards per reception. Simpson feels Cuevas is someone Alabama can lean on to be used in a lot of different ways.

“We can use him in so many different ways,” Simpson said. “And then, us asking him to do the stuff that he does is incredible. The fact that guy came so far from an FCS school to Washington to here and is playing at an All-American level. That dude, he’s my guy. I thank him every day.”

Cuevas is expected to continue to be an integral part of the Crimson Tide’s offense in the future.
