With the transfer portal closed, and spring practice behind us, the College Football landscape is mostly settled heading into the 2025 season. As evaluators, we are left to make sense of that landscape, project teams from across the country, and the next waves of individual stars.
Heading into the 2025 season, there are a few potential breakout stars that already have my full attention. Some are obvious, while others are a little more of deeper pulls. Here are some extremely talented players that everyone needs to get on their radars heading toward the fall.
With wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate returning for the Buckeyes, you can expect there to be another potent passing attack in Columbus this fall. Along with junior Brandon Inniss, the wide receiver room under Brian Hartline will garner a lot of attention. That could cause for former Purdue transfer Max Klare to go under the radar, but not for long.
Hidden as a part of a putrid Purdue passing attack, Klare was outstanding in 2024. He ended that season with 51 receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-4, 236-pound tight end has a lot of parallels to NFL standout Zach Ertz, possessing an impressive catch radius, underrated fluidity, and separation skills.
Some may find the Manning hype exhausting, but the talent certainly warrants it. The main backup to quarterback Quinn Ewers last season, the then redshirt freshman flashed some huge upside in limited opportunities. He managed to throw for 939 yards and nine touchdowns, while only throwing two interceptions and completing over 67 percent of his passes. Manning also managed to rush for four more scores on the ground.
In those limited chances, Manning has already shown that he is one of the more gifted deep ball throwers in all of college football. At 6-4 and 220 pounds, he looks like your prototypical pocket passer. Manning is also an extremely gifted athlete that brings some unique dual threat abilities as a player. The hype is very, very real.

If not for a knee injury that cut his 2024 season short, Traore may have already been a breakout star. He was on pace for about 16 tackles for loss and 10 sacks for the Fighting Irish last fall. At 6-4 and 238 pounds, Traore is an outstanding combination of length, explosiveness, bend, and upside. The ceiling is the roof.
I’m hoping Notre Dame EDGE Boubacar Traore (#5) is able to get to full health this season. If he can, he has a chance to develop into one of the top pass rushers in CFB in 2025. Elite tools. pic.twitter.com/DnsthYcCos

For as talented as Traore is, Young is even more physically gifted. He is a freaky athlete at 6-7 and 265 pounds, and he has barely just tapped into his overall upside. A true freshman last season, Young collected just 23 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Young began to look better and better as the season went on, and is poised for a sophomore breakout.

A former top recruit for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Haynes wasn’t overly productive during his two-year career in Tuscaloosa. In 25 games, the Georgia native managed to rush for just 616 yards and nine touchdowns. Haynes also hauled in just 17 receptions for 99 yards.
The 5-11, 205-pound runner opted to transfer to Michigan this offseason, and he hopes that his talent will be on full display for a heavy running offense. There is no questioning the talent, but Haynes needs opportunity. You should expect him to get just that in Ann Arbor this season.
Former Alabama RB Justice Haynes transferred to Michigan this offseason, and is expected to be a breakout star in 2025. He’s a tremendous athlete who just needs to play more. pic.twitter.com/MsEz9koeZi

Heading into the 2025 college football season, Clemson defensive linemen Peter Woods and TJ Parker are going to get a lot of the attention. Defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart might also grab some headlines with his overall upside. That could cause former Purdue transfer Will Heldt to go a bit under the radar.
The 6-6, 265-pound defensive end quietly collected 56 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and five sacks for the Boilermakers last season. While that might quality for a breakout already, most college football fans aren’t overly familiar with Heldt. With that lack of attention, he has the combination of size, closing speed, and length to become a star in 2025.
Purdue EDGE Will Heldt (#15) is a PROBLEM. Listed 6-6 and 265 pounds with this type of closing speed and length. That’ll play. pic.twitter.com/zX84Iao9Ha
