Anonymous Big 12 Coach Calls Cincinnati ‘Hot Seat Job’

Preview magazine season is here as we roll into June, and college football fans begin to set their eyes on the things to come in the year ahead.

Along with Phil Steele and Lindy’s, Athlon Sports has made a name for itself as one of the giants in the preview magazine business, cementing itself as a mainstay on grocery store shelves across the nation.

This magazine, in particular, has long featured a segment during this part of the season in which they ask coaches anonymously about the other schools in their league.

It’s here where we’ll take a look at what one Big 12 coach has to say about the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Scott Satterfield’s group is coming off a 5-7 campaign, which gave them an 11th-place finish in the Big 12 Conference. They’ve really struggled since joining the league in 2022, and other coaches around the conference are beginning to take note.

For Cincinnati, win-now mode is now in effect.

This is a hot-seat job, and they have to show results this season or it’s probably done,” one Big 12 coach said. “The school or the AD, or both, locked in Satt [Scott Satterfield] on a big contract, and that’s kept him safe, but this is the season they have to show results.”

Satterfield is entering his third season at Cincinnati, and unfortunately, things aren’t looking great for his roster. He does have a solid quarterback under center with Brendan Sorsby, but even he generated some backlash among Big 12 coaches.

“Sorsby is a good quarterback, not a great one right now,” another Big 12 coach said. “He turns the ball over too much.”

Cincinnati will open the 2025 season with a massive test out of the gates, squaring off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Thursday, August 28th, at 8:00 p.m. central.
