Arch Manning, Texas Longhorns' offense answer the bell in dominant win over Sam Houston

Most expected it but the first three weeks of the season led to several doubts. But, on Saturday, Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns' offense were clinical in a beatdown of the Sam Houston Bearkats.

Manning was 18-for-21 for 309 yards and three touchdowns. After looking confused, lost, and at times not very good, the former five-star and No. 1 overall prospect was dialed in. Sure, it's Sam Houston, but if you're a Texas fan this is what you've been wanting to see from No. 16 in the burnt orange.

Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark both ran for a touchdown and Manning added two on the ground as well. But maybe the most important breakout star of the game was Ryan Wingo. He finished with four receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore was expected to be a big-time contributor this year but has been pressing the first three games. On Saturday, he looked like himself.

DeAndre Moore joined the party as well.

Like Wingo, most expected Moore to be the go-to guy for Manning this season. He finished with five receptions for 79 yards. Those two have to step up for Texas down the stretch if Steve Sarkisian and Co., want to get back to Atlanta for the SEC Championship and in the CFP field.

Defensively, Trey Moore and Colin Simmons both finished with a sack. These two have got to be clicking on all cylinders come SEC play. Simmons has been pressing all year thus far. It's been well-documented. On Saturday albeit against a lesser opponent looked more like himself.

Six total tackles for loss for the Longhorns is more like it for Pete Kwiatkowski's unit. If Manning can continue to find it on offense and the defense continues to do its thing, this team is going to give folks fits down the stretch in October and November.

Arch Manning is the big takeaway here.

After all the negativity and doubters have been chiming in for the first month of the season, the Texas signal caller answered the bell and was great. This is what Texas fans expected to see in 2025. Manning was calm and collected in the pocket, didn't try to do too much, and was on time with nearly every throw Saturday.

When the schedule picks up in two weeks, Texas will be on the road at the Swamp versus Florida. Manning will need to be even better moving forward, too. Tonight was impressive but it was Sam Houston. From here on out, it's going to be better defensive lines, better linebackers, and better secondaries.

If Arch Manning can continue to grow and make throws like he did tonight, this Texas team is going to be spunky as hell.
