Auburn Football Had No Words After Big Recruiting News on Monday

Coming off the recruiting successes of their 2025 class, which ranked sixth in the country according to 247Sports, the Auburn Tigers are seeking to build off that forward momentum into 2026.

Auburn took a step in the right direction with its latest recruiting commitment, running back Eric Perry, a three-star recruit out of DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi.

The Tigers' social media account had nothing to say other than a few "cold face" emojis on Monday, perhaps as a pun about the last name of head coach Hugh Freeze, or maybe it was because they felt the addition of Perry was an "ice cold" move, enjoyed by the SEC powerhouse.

In either case, Auburn is adding a 6-foot, 195-pound back who primarily played quarterback in high school. Perry had other offers from Jackson State, Murray State, North Alabama, Utah State and Sacramento State.

In 10 games as a junior, Perry rushed for 880 yards and 11 touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards in six contests.

The three-star recruit will face stiff competition as a true freshman and may need to redshirt. The backfield is already composed of senior Damari Alston, junior Jeremiah Cobb, incoming sophomore transfer Durell Robinson and redshirt freshman Alvin Henderson.

However, Auburn has big shoes to fill with the departure of last year's leading rusher, Jarquez Hunter, a fourth-round selection by the Los Angeles Rams. He rushed for 1,201 yards and eight touchdowns.

247Sports ranks Perry as the No. 125 athlete and the 52nd best player in the country. In its composite rankings, he ranks 1,208th, the No. 87 athlete and the No. 36 player in Mississippi.

The Tigers finished 5-7 last season, and Freeze has yet to lead the program to a winning record. Auburn begins the 2025 season on the road against Baylor on Aug. 29.
