The transfer portal has been buzzing with activity since it opened on Dec. 9 with over 2,300 players already looking to switch schools ahead of next season, according to On3.
For the North Carolina Tar Heels and head coach Bill Belichick, they lost a big part of their future. Just one day after UNC fell to UConn 27-14 in the Fenway Bowl, redshirt freshman linebacker Caleb LaVallee entered his name in the transfer portal, Pete Nakos of On3 reported.
"God's plan! ," LaVallee wrote on social media.
Despite not playing much throughout the season, LaVallee showed plenty of promise when he stepped foot on the field. And he played big minutes in Saturday's Fenway Bowl.
With nine tackles, he led the Tar Heels’ defense in their final game. Unfortunately, Belichick wasn’t in attendance to witness it in person, as he was reportedly "totally dialed into building the roster."

LaValee wraps up the 2024 season, having recorded 14 tackles, eight solo, and six assisted. He also had one punt return attempt that went six yards.
The Mableton, Ga., native was ranked as a three-star recruit and the 137th linebacker nationally in the Class of 2023, per On3.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder played high school football at Whitefield Academy. LaValee has three years of eligibility remaining.
