Bowl records for each team in every 2019 bowl game

Bowl record: 12-13-1

Air Force is making its first bowl appearance since 2016 when it beat South Alabama, 45-21, in the Arizona Bowl. The No. 24 Falcons are 4-5 in bowl games under current coach Troy Calhoun. This is the first time since 1998 that Air Force will play in a bowl as a ranked team.

Bowl record: 39-24-3 (including vacated victory from 2005)

For the first time in the six-year history of the College Football Playoff, the Crimson Tide will not be part of the final four. However, Alabama's date with Michigan in this season's Citrus Bowl is the 67th bowl appearance in program history (not including BCS and CFP title games) and 16th in a row. 

Bowl record: 4-0

The Mountaineers are perfect in bowl games since joining the ranks of the FBS in 2014. For the second straight season, No. 20 Appalachian State will be playing in the New Orleans Bowl. Last season the Mountaineers beat Middle Tennessee, 45-13.

Bowl record: 14-16-1

Taking on Florida State in this year's Sun Bowl, Arizona State is making its eighth bowl appearance in nine seasons. However, the Sun Devils will try to snap a three-game bowl skid since beating Duke in the 2014 Sun Bowl.

Bowl record: 3-5

Arkansas State has been a bowl staple this decade. It's embarking on the program's ninth straight bowl appearances with this year's Camellia Bowl invitation. However, the Red Wolves will look to avoid a third consecutive defeat. 

Bowl record: 24-17-2

The ninth-ranked Tigers will make their seventh straight postseason appearance when they face 16th-ranked Minnesota in the Outback Bowl. Auburn will look to take down a second straight Big Ten opponent after routing Purdue, 63-14, in last season's Music City Bowl.

Bowl record: 13-11

Ready to face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, Baylor is making its third New Year's Six bowl appearance. The Bears, who are in position to post the program's first 12-win season after recording just one victory in 2017, are aiming for a fourth consecutive bowl triumph.

Bowl record: 12-6

The Boise State bowl-appearance streak will reach 18 seasons — tied for fifth-longest in the country — when it faces Washington, in former Broncos coach Chris Petersen's swan song with the Huskies. This season, Boise would actually like to finish its bowl game after its date with Boston College in the First Responder Bowl last season was canceled due to poor weather.

Bowl record: 14-12

A fourth consecutive bowl appearance is in the cards for the Eagles, who will face Cincinnati in the Birmingham Bowl. Like Boise State, Boston College hopes to get this bowl in after inclement weather kept it from facing the Broncos in the 2018 First Responder Bowl.

Bowl record: 0-3

Perhaps the fourth time will be a charm for the Bulls in their attempt to win the program's first bowl game. Facing Charlotte in the 2019 Bahamas Bowl, Buffalo is making back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time.

Bowl record: 15-20-1

Christmas Eve in Hawaii playing a bowl game is not a bad way to spend the holiday. That's what the Cougars will be doing when they make their 37th appearance in a bowl game. BYU will be eyeing a third consecutive bowl victory.

Bowl record: 11-11-1

Cal is bowling in back-to-back seasons for the first time since a seven-game run from 2003-'09. Since that impressive streak, the Golden Bears will play in just their fourth bowl when they face Illinois in the Redbox Bowl.

Bowl record: 3-8

The Chippewas are perhaps the best turnaround story of 2019 in college football, earning a date with San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl after winning just one game in 2018. Now, Central Michigan has to snap that four-game bowl losing streak.

Bowl record: First appearance

In its fifth year on the FBS level, Charlotte is bowling thanks to a five-game winning streak to end the regular season. The 49ers will take on Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl — the opener of the FBS bowl season.

Bowl record: 8-9 (official NCAA bowls)

After missing out on bowl action in 2016 and 2017, the Bearcats will be part of the fun for a second consecutive season. Cincinnati, which will face Boston College in the Birmingham Bowl, is trying to win bowls in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011 and '12.

Bowl record: 24-20

As Clemson aims to defend its national title starting with a Fiesta Bowl date vs. second-ranked Ohio State (a matchup of two undefeated teams), this is the 15th straight time the program is playing postseason football. The Tigers' 24 bowl wins are tied for 12th all time, and the last time they failed to qualify for one came in 2004.

Bowl record: 1-3

EMU is headed to the Quick Lane Bowl to take on Pittsburgh, marking the first time in program history that it's playing postseason football in back-to-back seasons on the FBS/Division I level. The Eagles lost to Georgia Southern in last year's Camellia Bowl.

Bowl record: 23-21

Florida will take on Virginia in the Orange Bowl, where it looks to improve to 4-0 in the historic contest. In the Gators' last two bowl games, they've outscored opponents Michigan and Iowa 71-18. Unfortunately for Florida, this season's bowl foe does not come from the Big Ten.

Bowl record: 2-2

This season's Camellia Bowl will be Florida International's third straight bowl appearance. The Panthers will aim to win back-to-back bowl victories for the first time after beating Toledo in the Bahamas Bowl in 2018.

Bowl record: 3-0

For the second time in three seasons, FAU will be playing in the Boca Raton Bowl on its home field. The Owls beat Akron there in 2017. They will also look to remain perfect in bowl games since becoming an FBS/Division I-A program in 2005.

Bowl record: 28-16-3

After its record 36 consecutive seasons with a bowl appearance ended in 2018, Florida State is back with a trip to the Sun Bowl on tap. The Seminoles, who will take on Arizona State, last played in this historic bowl during the 1966 season.

Bowl record: 31-22-3

Off to the Sugar Bowl to meet Baylor, the Bulldogs are bowling for a 23rd consecutive campaign — the second-longest active streak in the nation. This will be Georgia's second straight appearance in the Sugar Bowl after losing to Texas last season. 

Bowl record: 2-0

Six seasons into their existence on the FBS level, the Eagles are looking to stay perfect amid the bowl ranks. Taking on Liberty in the Cure Bowl, Georgia Southern is looking to win back-to-back bowl games after knocking off Eastern Michigan in last year's Camellia Bowl.

Bowl record: 1-1

Set to take on Wyoming in the Arizona Bowl, Georgia State is playing in a bowl other than the Cure Bowl for the first time. The Panthers, who won at Tennessee this season, earned their first bowl victory over Western Kentucky in 2017.

Bowl record: 6-6

For the 11th time, the Warriors will be playing a bowl in their home state. This will be the second straight season Hawaii will play in the Hawaii Bowl. It beat Louisiana Tech in last year's contest.

Bowl record: 8-10

For the first since 2014, Illinois is making a bowl appearance — taking on California in the Redbox Bowl. It's also the first time in the Lovie Smith coaching era that the Illini are bowl bound. Their last bowl victory came against UCLA in 2011 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. 

Bowl record: 3-8

The Hoosiers' last bowl appearance came in 2016, but they have not won such a game since beating Baylor in the Copper Bowl in 1991. Indiana will try to snap a four-game losing streak when it faces Tennessee in the Gator Bowl.

Bowl record: 16-15-1

The Hawkeyes are bowl eligible for the 18th time under coach Kirk Ferentz. Their appearance in this year's Holiday Bowl will be the first since 1991. Iowa, which will face USC, is 2-0-1 over its previous three trips to the Holiday Bowl.

Bowl record: 4-10

From 2013-16, Iowa State went without a bowl appearance. Including this year's matchup with Notre Dame in the Camping World Bowl, it will be three in a row since that drought. Now the Cyclones just need to work on improving their rough bowl history.

Bowl record: 9-12

Kansas State enjoyed a solid 8-4 season under first-year coach Chris Klieman. The Wildcats were rewarded with a Liberty Bowl berth, as they return to bowl action after their eight-year run was ended in 2018. KSU is aiming to win three straight bowl games for the first time in school history.

Bowl record: 9-9

With the Wildcats to face Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl, coach Bob Stoops joins Rich Brooks as the only coaches in program history to make four consecutive bowl appearances. Kentucky evened up its all-time bowl mark with a win over Penn State in last season's Citrus Bowl.

Bowl record: 0-3

Kent State needed to win its final three games of the season to become bowl eligible and punch its ticket to the program's first such game (Frisco Bowl) since the GoDaddy.Com Bowl during the 2012 campaign. Now the focus will be trying to earn that elusive first bowl victory.

Bowl record: First appearance

It's been a historical season for Liberty, which accepted the program's first-ever bowl invitation, taking on Georgia Southern in the Cure Bowl. The 7-5 Flames are the fifth team in college football history to earn a bowl bid during its first full FBS season.

Bowl record: 4-2

Louisiana's trip to the LendingTree Bowl will be the second bowl game in as many seasons. From 2011-14, the Ragin' Cajuns won four consecutive bowl games. However, since then they've dropped two in a row.  

Bowl record: 7-3-1

When the Bulldogs take on Miami (FL) in the Independence Bowl, they will be trying for a sixth consecutive bowl victory. According to the school, Louisiana Tech and Wisconsin are the only active schools to win their last five bowls games in as many seasons.

Bowl record: 10-11-1

After winning just two games in 2018, the Cardinals are back in a bowl for the 18^th time in the last 22 seasons, this time in the Music City Bowl, in Scott Satterfield's first season as coach. Louisville, however, will be looking to avoid a third straight bowl defeat.

Bowl record: 26-23-1

The No. 1 team in the country, 13-0 LSU will face No. 4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 28. This is the first College Football Playoff appearance for the Tigers but their 20th consecutive season with a bowl berth. They've won three of their last four bowl games.

Bowl record: 12-2

Playing in the Gasparilla Bowl for a second straight season, Marshall is trying for an eighth consecutive bowl victory. Plus, its .857 winning percentage in FBS/Division I bowl games is the highest among programs with at least five appearances.

Bowl record: 5-7

The Group of Five representative for 2019, Memphis will meet Penn State in the Cotton Bowl. While the Tigers are making a sixth consecutive bowl appearance, they are also trying to avoid a fifth straight such defeat in the process.

Bowl record: 20-22

A 6-6 record under first-year head coach Manny Diaz should be viewed as a disappointment by the Hurricane faithful. However, Miami is bowling for a seventh consecutive season. Unfortunately for the program, it's lost eight of the last nine such appearances.

Bowl record: 7-4

The Mid-American Conference champion RedHawks will take part in the LendingTree Bowl, the final bowl game before the national championship contest. This will be Miami's third bowl since the 2005 season and first since 2016.

Bowl record: 21-26

The Wolverines will be in for an enticing matchup with Alabama in the Citrus Bowl. It's one of the better bowl contests on the docket but also another huge task for the Wolverines, as they to try and end their three-game bowl losing streak.

Bowl record: 12-16

It's 12 bowls in 13 seasons for the Spartans, who endured plenty of struggles during their 6-6 season, but they have a chance to close things out on a positive note in the Pinstripe Bowl. Michigan State has lost two of its last three bowl games. 

Bowl record: 8-12

It's certainly been a special season for the Golden Gophers (10-2), who earned themselves a New Year's Day date with Auburn in the Outback Bowl. Minnesota will be trying to extend its bowl winning streak to four games.

Bowl record: 13-9

The Bulldogs are bowling for a school-record 10th straight season, taking on Louisville in the Music City Bowl. Mississippi State is one of five SEC programs to go to a bowl every season during the decade of 2010-19.

Bowl record: 11-11-1

It's been a nice bounce-back season for the Midshipmen, who won just three games in 2018. Now they are back and looking to win a sixth bowl game in seven tries. Coach Ken Niumatalolo has won a school-record five bowl games.

Bowl record: 5-9

The blue turf awaits the Wolf Pack in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. They most recently played in this game during the 2008 season. Nevada will try to win three straight bowl games for the first time in program history.

Bowl record: 14-19

With legendary coach Mack Brown again guiding the program, North Carolina is back in the bowl business for the first time since 2016. Facing Temple in the Military Bowl, the Tar Heels are looking to snap a three-game bowl losing streak.

Bowl record: 17-18

It might not be the College Football Playoff, but Notre Dame will be playing in the postseason for a third consecutive campaign when taking on Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl. This will be the first time in five bowl games that the Irish will not face a ranked opponent.

Bow record: 4-8

The Bobcats will take to the blue turf of Boise to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, the same game Ohio won its first-ever bowl back in 2011. Though the Bobcats have just those four bowl victories, they will be trying for a third in as many seasons.

Bowl record: 24-25 (does not include vacated victory)

The Buckeyes are back in the College Football Playoff, taking on defending champion Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Ohio State will be looking for a third consecutive bowl win but obviously faces a huge challenge against the surging Tigers.

Bowl record: 29-22-1

Set to face No. 1 LSU in the College Football Playoff semifinals (Peach Bowl), the Sooners are trying to avoid a third consecutive defeat at this stage of the postseason. However, Oklahoma's 29 bowl wins are tied with Penn State and Texas for the fourth-most all time.

Bowl record: 19-10

The Cowboys' string of 14 straight bowl appearances ranks ninth in the nation. When they take on Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl, Oklahoma State will be aiming for a fourth consecutive bowl victory.

Bowl record: 14-18

Oregon is headed for its eighth appearance in the Rose Bowl (to face Wisconsin). The Ducks snapped a three-game bowl losing streak by edging Michigan State, 7-6, in last season's Redbox Bowl. They won four straight bowl games from 2011-14.

Bowl record: 29-18-2

Penn State's 61.2 winning percentage in bowl games ranks sixth among schools with at least 20 such appearances. Facing Memphis in the Cotton Bowl, the Nittany Lions are playing in their seventh consecutive bowl game.

Bowl record: 13-21

The Panthers are bowl bound for a second straight season. That's the good news. The bad: They are trying to snap a four-game bowl losing streak that dates back to a victory over Bowling Green in 2013 in the final edition of the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.

Bowl record: 5-8 (Division I)

San Diego State is making its 10th straight bowl appearance — longest streak among FBS schools from California. The Aztecs are also just one of two programs from a Group of Five conference to go 10 straight seasons with a bowl date.

Bowl record: 7-8-1

The Mustangs are looking to record their first 11-win season since the Pony Express days of 1982. However, the Mustangs are making just their second bowl appearance since beating Fresno State in the 2012 Hawaii Bowl.

Bowl record: 12-13

Southern Miss failed to make a bowl in 2018 but got the job done this season with a 7-5 record and now will face Tulane in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Eagles have lost two of their last three bowl appearances.

Bowl record: 3-5

It's a fifth consecutive bowl appearance for the Owls, who hope to fare a little better after losing three of the previous four such contests. Temple is headed to the Military Bowl for the third time in the program's history.

Bowl record: 28-24

The Vols are making their 53^rd bowl appearance, which ranks sixth in college football history. Following no bowl action in 2017 and '18, Tennessee will take on Indiana in the Gator Bowl and will be looking for a fourth consecutive bowl win.

Bowl record: 29-24-3

The Longhorns are making a third consecutive bowl appearance (Alamo Bowl) and will also be trying to go 3-0 during that stretch. Texas is 2-1 in its previous trips to the San Antonio-based bowl, which will be like a home game for the team.

Bowl record: 18-22

Texas A&M is amid a school-record streak of 11 consecutive bowl appearances with its matchup vs. Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. The Aggies will be looking to win back-to-back bowl games for the first time since a four-year unbeaten run from 2011-14.

Bowl record: 5-7

Tulane started playing bowl games in 1931 and even won the inaugural Sugar Bowl in 1934. The Green Wave, who will be playing in the Armed Forces Bowl, will try to win a bowl in consecutive seasons for the first time in school history.

Bowl records: 1-2

Taking on a ranked Appalachian State team in the New Orleans Bowl, the Blazers are set for their third consecutive bowl contest. They also will be aiming for a second straight victory after blowing out Northern Illinois in last season's Boca Raton Bowl.

Bowl record: 4-6

The Knights' stretch of back-to-back New Year's Six bowl appearances has ended, but they will be part of the bowl slate for a fourth consecutive season with a spot in the Gasparilla Bowl. UCF will also be aiming for a third straight season with at least 10 wins.

Bowl record: 34-18 (does not included vacated bowl appearances)

After its string of six straight bowl appearances ended in 2018, USC is back bowling with a spot in the Holiday Bowl against Iowa. This marks the third time during the decade that the Trojans will be part of the Holiday Bowl festivities.

Bowl record: 17-5

Facing Texas in the Alamo Bowl, Utah will try to improve to 5-0 all-time in bowl games played in the state of Texas. The Utes' five-game bowl winning streak was snapped last season when they lost to Northwestern in the Holiday Bowl.

Bowl record: 5-8

Frisco Bowl bound, Utah State is making its eighth bowl appearance in the last nine seasons. The Aggies have have won four of those previous seven bowl trips, including a 52-13 rout of North Texas in the 2018 New Mexico Bowl.

Bowl record: 8-12

While Virginia is making its first appearance in the historic Orange Bowl, this will be the program's third consecutive bowl game. The Cavaliers blanked South Carolina 28-0 in last season's Belk Bowl.

Bowl record: 13-19

Virginia Tech's run of 27 consecutive seasons with a bowl appearance is the nation's longest active streak and third-longest in college football history. The Hokies, however, will look to avoid a third straight bowl loss when they face Kentucky in the Belk Bowl.

Bowl record: 9-4

The Demon Deacons are headed to New York City to face Michigan State in the Pinstripe Bowl this season. This will mark the fourth consecutive bowl appearance for Wake Forest, which will look to improve to 4-0 during that stretch.

Bowl record: 18-20-1

Coach Chris Petersen's final game with the Huskies will come in the Las Vegas Bowl against his former Boise State program. It will also be Washington's 10th consecutive bowl appearance. The bad news is that the Huskies have lost each of their last three bowl games.

Bowl record: 8-7

For the first time in program history, Washington State will play in a bowl game (Cheez-It Bowl) for five consecutive seasons. The Cougars are also looking to win bowl contests in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.

Bowl record: 3-2

Before making the transition to the FBS level in 2007, WKU enjoyed plenty of success as a Divsion I-AA team. Since the promotion, the Hilltoppers have also fared well and will make their fifth bowl appearance in six years by playing in the 2019 First Responder Bowl. 

Bowl record: 1-8

With its spot in the First Responder Bowl, Western Michigan is making its fifth bowl appearance in six seasons. That's the good news. The bad: The Broncos need to improve a bowl record with the only such victory coming over Middle Tennessee in the 2015 Bahamas Bowl.

Bowl record: 16-14

No. 11 Wisconsin will be making its 10th appearance in the Rose Bowl while also trying for a sixth consecutive bowl victory. In fact, the Badgers will be playing in their 18th straight bowl game since missing out in 2001.

Bowl record: 7-8

The Cowboys are bowling (Arizona Bowl) for the third time in four seasons and back in the mix after not earning an invite even with a 6-6 record in 2018. Wyoming won its most recent bowl, 37-14, over Central Michigan, in the 2017 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
