Bowl records for each team in every 2019 bowl game

The 2019 bowl season is just about to get underway. Here's a look at the bowl records of each team that will be part of the action. 

Rankings reflect that of The Associated Press Top 25.

Air Force Falcons

Bowl record: 12-13-1

Air Force is making its first bowl appearance since 2016 when it beat South Alabama, 45-21, in the Arizona Bowl. The No. 24 Falcons are 4-5 in bowl games under current coach Troy Calhoun. This is the first time since 1998 that Air Force will play in a bowl as a ranked team.

Bowl record: 39-24-3 (including vacated victory from 2005)

For the first time in the six-year history of the College Football Playoff, the Crimson Tide will not be part of the final four. However, Alabama's date with Michigan in this season's Citrus Bowl is the 67th bowl appearance in program history (not including BCS and CFP title games) and 16th in a row.

Appalachian State Mountaineers

The Mountaineers are perfect in bowl games since joining the ranks of the FBS in 2014. For the second straight season, No. 20 Appalachian State will be playing in the New Orleans Bowl. Last season the Mountaineers beat Middle Tennessee, 45-13.

Taking on Florida State in this year's Sun Bowl, Arizona State is making its eighth bowl appearance in nine seasons. However, the Sun Devils will try to snap a three-game bowl skid since beating Duke in the 2014 Sun Bowl.

Arkansas State has been a bowl staple this decade. It's embarking on the program's ninth straight bowl appearances with this year's Camellia Bowl invitation. However, the Red Wolves will look to avoid a third consecutive defeat.

The ninth-ranked Tigers will make their seventh straight postseason appearance when they face 16th-ranked Minnesota in the Outback Bowl. Auburn will look to take down a second straight Big Ten opponent after routing Purdue, 63-14, in last season's Music City Bowl.

Ready to face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, Baylor is making its third New Year's Six bowl appearance. The Bears, who are in position to post the program's first 12-win season after recording just one victory in 2017, are aiming for a fourth consecutive bowl triumph.

The Boise State bowl-appearance streak will reach 18 seasons — tied for fifth-longest in the country — when it faces Washington, in former Broncos coach Chris Petersen's swan song with the Huskies. This season, Boise would actually like to finish its bowl game after its date with Boston College in the First Responder Bowl last season was canceled due to poor weather.

A fourth consecutive bowl appearance is in the cards for the Eagles, who will face Cincinnati in the Birmingham Bowl. Like Boise State, Boston College hopes to get this bowl in after inclement weather kept it from facing the Broncos in the 2018 First Responder Bowl.

Perhaps the fourth time will be a charm for the Bulls in their attempt to win the program's first bowl game. Facing Charlotte in the 2019 Bahamas Bowl, Buffalo is making back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time.

Christmas Eve in Hawaii playing a bowl game is not a bad way to spend the holiday. That's what the Cougars will be doing when they make their 37th appearance in a bowl game. BYU will be eyeing a third consecutive bowl victory.

Cal is bowling in back-to-back seasons for the first time since a seven-game run from 2003-'09. Since that impressive streak, the Golden Bears will play in just their fourth bowl when they face Illinois in the Redbox Bowl.

The Chippewas are perhaps the best turnaround story of 2019 in college football, earning a date with San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl after winning just one game in 2018. Now, Central Michigan has to snap that four-game bowl losing streak.

In its fifth year on the FBS level, Charlotte is bowling thanks to a five-game winning streak to end the regular season. The 49ers will take on Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl — the opener of the FBS bowl season.

After missing out on bowl action in 2016 and 2017, the Bearcats will be part of the fun for a second consecutive season. Cincinnati, which will face Boston College in the Birmingham Bowl, is trying to win bowls in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011 and '12.

As Clemson aims to defend its national title starting with a Fiesta Bowl date vs. second-ranked Ohio State (a matchup of two undefeated teams), this is the 15th straight time the program is playing postseason football. The Tigers' 24 bowl wins are tied for 12th all time, and the last time they failed to qualify for one came in 2004.

EMU is headed to the Quick Lane Bowl to take on Pittsburgh, marking the first time in program history that it's playing postseason football in back-to-back seasons on the FBS/Division I level. The Eagles lost to Georgia Southern in last year's Camellia Bowl.

Florida will take on Virginia in the Orange Bowl, where it looks to improve to 4-0 in the historic contest. In the Gators' last two bowl games, they've outscored opponents Michigan and Iowa 71-18. Unfortunately for Florida, this season's bowl foe does not come from the Big Ten.

This season's Camellia Bowl will be Florida International's third straight bowl appearance. The Panthers will aim to win back-to-back bowl victories for the first time after beating Toledo in the Bahamas Bowl in 2018.

After its record 36 consecutive seasons with a bowl appearance ended in 2018, Florida State is back with a trip to the Sun Bowl on tap. The Seminoles, who will take on Arizona State, last played in this historic bowl during the 1966 season.

Off to the Sugar Bowl to meet Baylor, the Bulldogs are bowling for a 23rd consecutive campaign — the second-longest active streak in the nation. This will be Georgia's second straight appearance in the Sugar Bowl after losing to Texas last season.

Six seasons into their existence on the FBS level, the Eagles are looking to stay perfect amid the bowl ranks. Taking on Liberty in the Cure Bowl, Georgia Southern is looking to win back-to-back bowl games after knocking off Eastern Michigan in last year's Camellia Bowl.

Set to take on Wyoming in the Arizona Bowl, Georgia State is playing in a bowl other than the Cure Bowl for the first time. The Panthers, who won at Tennessee this season, earned their first bowl victory over Western Kentucky in 2017.

For the 11th time, the Warriors will be playing a bowl in their home state. This will be the second straight season Hawaii will play in the Hawaii Bowl. It beat Louisiana Tech in last year's contest.

For the first since 2014, Illinois is making a bowl appearance — taking on California in the Redbox Bowl. It's also the first time in the Lovie Smith coaching era that the Illini are bowl bound. Their last bowl victory came against UCLA in 2011 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.

The Hoosiers' last bowl appearance came in 2016, but they have not won such a game since beating Baylor in the Copper Bowl in 1991. Indiana will try to snap a four-game losing streak when it faces Tennessee in the Gator Bowl.

The Hawkeyes are bowl eligible for the 18th time under coach Kirk Ferentz. Their appearance in this year's Holiday Bowl will be the first since 1991. Iowa, which will face USC, is 2-0-1 over its previous three trips to the Holiday Bowl.

From 2013-16, Iowa State went without a bowl appearance. Including this year's matchup with Notre Dame in the Camping World Bowl, it will be three in a row since that drought. Now the Cyclones just need to work on improving their rough bowl history.

Kansas State enjoyed a solid 8-4 season under first-year coach Chris Klieman. The Wildcats were rewarded with a Liberty Bowl berth, as they return to bowl action after their eight-year run was ended in 2018. KSU is aiming to win three straight bowl games for the first time in school history.
