The LSU Tigers have had some of the best history of college quarterbacks that you can possibly have. Some other schools can compete or may even be better historically, but the last 20 years or so from LSU have been elite.
Of course, there is Joe Burrow, the now Cincinnati Bengals quarterback who had maybe the greatest season from a quarterback that we have ever seen, as he led the Tigers to a National Championship. Of course, there is JaMarcus Russell, the former Las Vegas Raiders QB who was drafted No. 1 overall.
And we can't forget about Jayden Daniels, who is now killing it with the Washington Commanders, as he was the last Heisman to come from LSU. And maybe one day we will look back and add Garrett Nussmeier to that list. That's not saying he will win a Heisman or a National Championship, but he has the potential to be great -- so much so that his head coach has already put a ton of pressure on his shoulders for the 2025 season.
LSU HC Brian Kelly is VERY confident in QB Garrett Nussmeier heading into the 2025 season. #GeauxTigers #SECMD25

"The growth from Jayden Daniels from year one to year two was astronomical," LSU head coach Brian Kelly said at the 2025 SEC Media Days. "Garrett Nussmeier will have a similar jump. Experience is the most important thing."
Jayden Daniels won the Heisman and is now in the NFL, being talked about as a top-ten quarterback in the world after just one season in the big leagues. So, yes, there is a ton of pressure there. But, Kelly wouldn't do that if he didn't have faith and belief that Nussmeier could do it.
Last season, Nussmeier was one of the best QBs in college football. He was very accurate and made some more than impressive throws from the pocket. But he also had one of the best offensive lines in football, and some of those guys are no longer there, like Will Campbell, who now plays for the New England Patriots.
We don't know how this offensive line will be yet, but we can assume they will be fairly decent. The Tigers are confident that Nussmeier will be maybe the best quarterback in college football.
