Week 14 of the 2024 college football season begins tonight with one more round of regular season games before attention turns to conference championship and College Football Playoff games.
While plenty of programs around the country are fighting for a chance to compete in the 12-team playoff, others have already waved the white flag and turned their attention to next season.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are one of those programs, and the university has fired head coach Mack Brown after six seasons with the team.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Brown will coach the Tar Heels on Saturday against the N.C. State Wolfpack. Brown's involvement in UNC's bowl game has not been decided.

Brown and the Tar Heels are 6-5 on the season, having won three of their last four games, all in ACC play.
Since Brown arrived in North Carolina in 2019, he's led the program to a 44-32 overall record. UNC reached a bowl game in each season under Brown, holding a 1-4 record in those postseason matchups.
Brown, 73, has been a prominent figure in college football for decades.
After starting his career as a wide receivers coach with Florida State in 1973, Brown began working up the coaching ladder in programs like Southern Miss, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Tulane.
Brown took over the Tar Heels program in 1988 and went 1-10 in each of his first two seasons. But the turnaround began in 1990, and Brown led UNC to eight straight winning seasons from 1990-97.
He made a lasting name with the Texas Longhorns, leading the program from 1998 to 2013. Brown led the Longhorns to a national title in 2005 and helped the program earn Big 12 titles in 2005 and 2009.
After five years away from coaching, Brown returned to Chapel Hill in 2019. He holds a 288-154-1 overall record as a head coach throughout his career. Brown is the all-time wins leader at North Carolina with 181 victories.
As Brown departs from UNC, only two national title-winning coaches remain in college football: Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart and Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney.
