The Colorado Buffaloes capped off the 2024 college football season with a 9-3 record, 7-2 in Big 12 play. In Deion Sanders' second year as the head coach, Colorado was knocking on the door of a conference title game appearance.

While the Buffaloes fell just short of an opportunity of playing in the Big 12 title game, losing out on a four-way tiebreaker with BYU, Iowa State and the eventual winner Arizona State, they'll soon be headed to a bowl game.

Following the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday, a 45-19 win for the Sun Devils, it was made clear that Colorado would likely be playing in the Alamo Bowl.

The long-time San Antonio bowl game has a contractual agreement to select a Big 12 school and Pac-12 legacy school to play in its postseason matchup, per Brandon Judd at Yahoo Sports

After the regular season the four schools in consideration were Arizona State and Colorado from the Pac-12 legacy and Iowa State and BYU from the Big 12.

Given the Sun Devils' Big 12 title victory, punching their ticket to the College Football Playoff, the Buffaloes look to be the team selected from the Pac-12 legacy pool.

Their opponent likely comes down to BYU or Iowa State, both of which ended the regular season with a 10-2 record, going 7-2 in Big 12 play. The Buffaloes did not face either conference foe in the regular season.

While Colorado is likely the team selected from the Pac-12 legacy pool, the matchup will be formally announced at 3:30 p.m. ET Sunday. The selection will take place soon after the College Football Playoff rankings show, hosted by Rece Davis of "College GameDay."

The Alamo Bowl is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 28 and will be aired on ABC.
