Travis Hunter Sr. will get to witness his son's big moment Thursday night.
The father of two-way phenom Travis Hunter Jr. is currently under home confinement for a 2023 arrest on gun and drug charges. He was released from Palm Beach County West Detention Center late last year after serving a 90-day sentence.
According to The Palm Beach Post's Tom D'Angelo, Hunter Sr. received permission to attend this week's draft in Green Bay.
Hunter Sr. will leave on Wednesday and is required to return home on Friday. He's only allowed to leave the hotel grounds to go to the draft at Lambeau Field and must submit a full travel itinerary.
Travis Jr.'s grandmother, Shirley Hunter, will instead attend a watch party in their hometown of Boynton Beach, Florida. She's glad her son will get to experience the moment first-hand.
"That made me proud because he can go up there," Shirley told D'Angelo. "I'd rather him be up there to be with his son than me. That's his first son."
Although released shortly before the Heisman Trophy ceremony, Hunter Sr. wasn't granted permission to attend the New York event. Colorado's two-way star shouted out his dad during his acceptance speech.
"I want to say something to my father," Travis Jr. said. "He's not here and wasn't able to make it, but I know you're watching on TV. Dad, I love you. For all the stuff you went through man … Now look at your oldest son. I did it for you."
Onlookers seem increasingly convinced about Hunter's landing spot. With the Tennessee Titans widely expected to take Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick, the wide receiver and cornerback appears likely to go next to the Cleveland Browns.
Per DraftKings Sportsbook , Hunter is a -900 favorite over Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter (+550) and Colorado teammate Shedeur Sanders (+2200) to get selected with the No. 2 pick. Browns general manager Andrew Berry recently called Hunter a "unicorn" due to his ability to play two positions at an elite level.
The NFL Draft starts Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and the NFL Network.
