Head coach Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are in pursuit of several elite safeties in the 2026 recruiting class. None are more talented than Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman star Jett Washington. He is a player that the Oregon program has valued heavily for a long time.
Viewed as the front runner for Washington, Oregon just got one step closer to landing Washington this week. It was announced that the dynamic defender is now down to three finalists, and the Ducks are included. They were joined by Alabama and USC.

While a commitment date hasn’t been set yet, it’s expected that something could come shortly after Washington finishes up official visits. From the sounds of it from various sides of this recruitment, Oregon is expected to be very hard to beat.
The Ducks are also continuing to pursue fellow five-star safeties Joey O’Brien and Jireh Edwards, although neither is considered likely right now. Washington is their best hope to land an elite player on the back end this cycle, at least at safety.
Washington is considered to be an elite player by multiple of the major recruiting platforms. He currently ranks as a five-star player on the 247Sports Composite ranking. That ranking has Washington pegged as the No. 29 overall player, No. 4 safety, and No. 1 player in the state of Nevada for the 2026 recruiting class.
A long list of impressive suitors have continued to pursue Washington. Some of his top offers include the Ducks, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miami, USC, Texas A&M, Penn State, Florida, Nebraska, Florida State, Missouri, Colorado, Arizona State, Washington, Maryland, UNC, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, UCLA, Oregon State, Virginia, and Arizona among others.
The 6-5, 200-pound athlete was a dominant force for Bishop Gorman during the 2024 season. He was able to collect 38 total tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble. Washington is also a tremendous basketball player for the school as well, and has legitimate interest for his talents on the hardwood as well.

Michigan fans have been waiting for months for top running back target Savion Hiter to set his commitment date. Hiter is the top running back in the nation, and it feels like the Wolverines and running back coach Tony Alford have put all their eggs in the Hiter basket. Michigan has missed out on numerous top-tier running back recruits in the 2026 class and has only one running back commit, Jonathan Brown, thus far. Hiter and his camp have been very quiet about their recruitment, and not much is known as to which way he is leaning. With a "Final Four" consisting of Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and Tennessee, Hiter has incredible options for his college choices. Most recruiting experts say the battle is between Michigan and Tennessee. Well, Hiter finally set a commitment date and one Michigan player blieves there may be some hidden symbolism about his choice. After Hiter shared his commitment date of August 19th on his Instagram, one of the first comments came from Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood. Underwood and Hiter have been pretty close whenever Hiter comes to visit it is Underwood who shows him around. Bryce made the simple comment that August 19th is his birthday. What an incredible birthday gift that would be to land a top 15-ranked recruit and the best running back in the 2026 class. Michigan fans are clamoring for any sign of hope that Hiter could end up in a winged helmet. Underwood may have just given them a massive boost by pointing out that subtle connection.
There is not a bigger sporting event in North America than the Super Bowl, and tickets are only getting more expensive every year. There is also a ridiculous secondary market for tickets where seats sell for well above the original face value. It is usually fans or ticket resellers going for a quick profit. But as was reported on Friday, sometimes it can be players in the NFL looking to make a profit. According to multiple reports, including the Associated Press and ESPN, more than 100 players are facing fines and potential suspensions for selling their allotment of tickets to this year's Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs for above face value. Players are reportedly facing fines of one-and-a-half times the face value they originally paid for the tickets, while they are also prevented from purchasing tickets to the Super Bowl for the next seasons. The Associated Press obtained a memo from the NFL detailing the violation and investigation. That memo was as follows: “Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket’s face value in violation of the Policy. This long-standing League Policy, which is specifically incorporated into the Collective Bargaining Agreement, prohibits League or Club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket’s face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less. We are in the process of completing our investigation into this matter, but the investigation has revealed that club employees and players sold their tickets to a small number of ‘bundlers’ who were working with a ticket reseller to sell the Super Bowl tickets above face value.” If players are not willing to pay the fine, they could be facing suspension from the league. It seems unlikely that any of the players — none of whom have been named, or their teams — would refuse to pay such a fine. It's also one of those moments where you can say, professional athletes — they're still normal people trying to make a quick buck. The most logical answer here is perhaps some of the players caught up in this are younger players who have not yet struck it rich on a big contract or perhaps even practice squad players who are not making top dollar.
The New York Mets are a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East, but their pitching staff is still injury-ravaged despite the recent returns of Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas. Brandon Waddell (hip), Dedniel Nuñez (elbow), Max Kranick (flexor), Paul Blackburn (shoulder), Tylor Megill (elbow), Griffin Canning (Achilles), Drew Smith (elbow), A.J. Minter (lat), Danny Young (elbow), and Christian Scott (elbow) are alll on the Mets' IL. The MLB Trade Deadline is July 31 at 6 p.m. EST, so the front office has one week to add healthy arms from around the league this season. ESPN's David Schoenfield predicted on Thursday that New York would trade for a Minnesota Twins reliever. "One guarantee of the trade deadline: The Mets will add to the bullpen, probably with more than one trade. Though the rotation still ranks fifth in ERA, that was built off a hot start," he wrote. "More importantly, the only Mets starter to complete six innings since June 7 has been David Peterson. As a result, manager Carlos Mendoza has run relievers Reed Garrett, Huascar Brazoban, Jose Butto and Ryne Stanek into the ground. The bullpen had a 2.78 ERA through May, but that figure is over 5.00 since the beginning of June (ranking near the bottom of the majors)." "The Twins have two high-profile relievers in [Jhoan] Duran and [Griffin] Jax, both of whom are under team control through 2027, so they'll be much more expensive than your usual short-term relievers if the Twins decide to trade one or both," he continued. "Duran would be harder to deal -- but bring more in return -- so we'll say Jax will go. Don't be fooled by his 4.09 ERA: He has 68 strikeouts and 12 walks in 44 innings with a 97-mph heater. He's an elite strikeout reliever, the type you want on the mound in October." The Mets are hot despite their injuries, as they're on a four-game winning streak and just swept the Los Angeles Angels. Next up is a road trip against the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. New York right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (8-5, 3.48 ERA) will face Giants right-hander Logan Webb (9-7, 3.08 ERA) on Friday.
After coming off a brutal loss to the Athletics, the Houston Astros have seen their edge in the American League West start to shrink. It has been a fantastic season so far for the Astros, but with the competition in the AL West getting tougher, Houston must think about making some upgrades before the trade deadline. The recent deal that sent Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners was a clear signal they are looking to improve and make a run at the Astros in the division. The Mariners are a very good team that needed offensive help, and that is starting to come. More News: Astros Place Another Starting Pitcher on IL With Concerning Injury Houston likely will try to be aggressive to make some improvements as well. When looking at the roster, they could use a left-handed bat to help the offense, along with a middle-of-the-rotation pitcher. Depending on how aggressive the team will try to get, it could cost them some of their best prospects. Fortunately, their farm system has coveted pieces, with one prospect standing out as a potential trade option. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com recently wrote about the best trade chip for the Astros being right-handed pitching prospect Miguel Ullola. “The 23-year-old possesses a strong fastball and a solid slider, projecting as a mid-rotation starter. Houston is looking for a left-handed bat and suddenly has an opening at third base following Isaac Paredes’ recent injury.” More News: Astros Should Target Ryan O'Hearn Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline Even though Houston knows there is no such thing as too much starting pitching, Ullola is a great trade chip after the 23-year-old has posted a 3.50 ERA across 69.1 innings pitched in Triple-A. With an elite strikeout per nine rate of 11.6, there is a lot to like about the potential of Ullola going forward. As arguably the best trade chip the Astros have, they wouldn’t move him, more than likely, for just a rental player. The right-hander would be far too valuable to give up for a player for just a couple of months. More News: Astros Must Improve Offense Following Mariners Acquisition of Josh Naylor Due to the injuries to Isaac Paredes and Yordan Alvarez, help in the lineup seems like it would be the most pressing area for them to try to upgrade. This is a unit that hasn’t been great for most of the year, but a lot of that is because of the injury to their star slugger. If it is Ullola who is dealt at the trade deadline, that would mean more than likely an impact player is coming back in return. For more Astros news, head over to Astros On SI.
